SHABODEHO@AOL.COM February 5, 2012, 10:45 am Published in Lebanon Daily News on February 2, 2012 Jeanne Cleaver VERO BEACH, FL Jeanne Cleaver of Vero Beach, Fla., Lincoln, Mass., and Southport Island, Maine, died peacefully surrounded by family after a brief illness on Friday, January 27, 2012, in Vero Beach. Born March 9, 1928, in Galloway Township, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Louis Bozarth and Mildred (Kaiser) Bozarth and sister of the late Howard Bozarth. Jeanne earned a B.A. from Lebanon Valley College and an M.A. in Art History from Penn State. She married Dr. Robert Uhrich and lived for a time in Sweden before returning to the United States to raise her two children in Lebanon. An enthusiastic artist, Jeanne taught art classes in her home to local children and was one of the founding members of the Lebanon Valley Council on the Arts. She also taught English as a second language to Vietnamese and Cambodian refugees. Her first husband died in 1981. After a long and wonderful courtship, she married Laird C. Cleaver of Milwaukee, Wis. The couple lived in Park City, Utah, where Jeanne was an active skier and winter hostess. She spent nearly every summer of her later life in Maine and owned a home on Southport Island where she loved cruising the Maine coast with the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club and supporting local artists. An avid world traveler, Jeanne made lifelong friendships with those she met abroad. In 1994, Jeanne and Laird moved to Lincoln, Mass., to be closer to her children. She and Laird also owned a home in Vero Beach. Jeanne's artistic flair enlivened her every activity and was expressed in her writings, art, homes, and gracious entertaining. Those who knew and loved Jeanne will remember her own beauty reflected in the living spaces she created that always embraced her guests with elegant comfort and good fun. A neighbor said it best upon learning of Jeanne's death: "the world is a little less sparkly now." She is survived by her devoted husband, Laird C. Cleaver; daughter, Lynn Uhrich Smith of Weston, Mass.; son, Christopher Uhrich (Julie) of Lincoln, Mass.; stepdaughter, Christen Cleaver of Aspen, Colo., and Los Angeles, Calif.; and grandsons, Sebastian and Benjamin Smith of Miami, Fla., and Finn Uhrich of Lincoln, Mass. Burial will be private. The family plans to hold a memorial for Jeanne this summer in Maine.
