M shabodeho@aol.com March 3, 2012, 9:38 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on March 2, 2012 Roy L. Deck CITRUS SPRINGS, FL Roy L. Deck, 93, passed away Monday, February 27, 2012, in Dunnellon, Fla. Born in Fredericksburg, on March 1, 1918, he was the son of the late Samuel and Eva (Lick) Deck and the husband of the late Stella Kaluzniak of Irvington, N.J. He was preceded in death by his brother, Guy Deck and wife Ruth, and his brother Ray Deck, all of Fredericksburg. Roy graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1936. He was a WWII Marine veteran, serving as a dog handler/ scout in the Pacific Theatre. He was wounded in the Palau Islands in the South Pacific. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Prior to military service, he worked as a district manager for the Grimes Poultry firm in Washington, D.C. After his discharge, he returned to work for the firm in the D.C. area for some years. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as well as the Washington Suburban Sanitation Commission. He retired to Citrus Springs, FL, where he was active in the VFW and in his church. He is survived by his wife, Havilon, Florida; two sons, Robert and wife Lenore, Florida, and Richard and wife Sun Ok, Texas; a daughter, Susan, wife of Keith Sullivan, Maryland; a sister-in-law, Arlene Deck, Hershey; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two nieces, Jane Deck Blaser, Hershey, and Carolyn Koons, Fredericksburg. A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 5, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg.
