M. shabodeho@aol.com March 31, 2012, 5:30 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on March 25, 2012 James C. Dowlen MYERSTOWN James C. "Big Jim" Dowlen, 69, died Friday, March 23, 2012, at his home. Before retiring to Pennsylvania, James resided in the Red Bank, N.J., area for many years. He was the loving husband of Carol A. (Williams) Dowlen to whom he would have been married 48 years on October 24, 2012. Born in Long Branch, N.J., on June 29, 1942, he was the son of the late William (1908-1966) and Grace (Ridle) (1913-1955) Dowlen. During his career as a service manager at several Ford Dealerships in New Jersey and New York, he received many awards for his dedicated service before retiring in 2006. He was a lifetime member and former captain with Liberty Hose Co. No. 94, Red Bank, N.J. He also coached for River Plaza Little League, was active with the Indian Guides, Middletown, and served in the National Guard for several years. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his loving son, Michael J., husband of Janice Dowlen of Middletown, N.J.; and his loving grandchildren, Kyle, Colin, Conor, and Gabriella. He is also survived by his loving family: sisters, Joyce, wife of Jack Mafara of Belford, N.J., and Patricia, wife of Gary Morris of Titusville, Fla.; brother, William, husband of Diane Dowlen of Toms River, N.J.; sister-in-law, JoAnne, wife of Raymond Pierson of Red Bank, N.J.; brother-in-law, Ricky, husband of Debbie Reis of Merritt Island, Fla.; many loving nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law, Edith Fecher of Eatontown, N.J. Jim's wonderful sense of humor, generosity, and amazing spirit will remain in the hearts of his loved ones forever. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at 11 a.m. from the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank, N.J. Viewing Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the John E. Day Funeral Home. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Middletown, N.J. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society , P.O. Box 1274, Lebanon, PA 17042. Flowers are also welcomed. Grose Funeral Home, Myerstown, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
