Filipek, 89, formerly of Reading, died of natural causes during the evening hours of Tuesday, May 1, 2012, in the Hershey Medical Center. Mrs. Filipek is survived by her loving husband, Edward J. Filipek. Born in Sinking Spring, she was a daughter of the late Russell J. and Emma I. (Hoster) Siegfried. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Filipek is survived by her brother, Frederick Siegfried of New Cumberland; and her two sisters, Doris Lockwood of Sinking Spring and Bonnie Spayd of Wyomissing. Other survivors include several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Pearl Shemansky. Mrs. Filipek was a 1942 graduate of Wyomissing High School. She was a graduate of Bryland Institute of Beauty Culture and served as registrar of Bryland Institute for many years. Mrs. Filipek was the owner operator of her beauty salon in Sinking Spring. She was also employed by the Dept. of the Auditor General Bureau of School Audits as a State Auditor of Schools until her retirement in 1985. She was a United States Navy Veteran, having enlisted in 1944. Mrs. Filipek was a parishioner of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, Reading. Mrs. Filipek, loved life and was very passionate in everything that she did. She will be sadly missed. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their sympathy and respects to the Filipek family on Monday May 7, 2012, from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at the Kopicki-Bradley Funeral Home, Inc., 239 S. Ninth St., Reading 19602. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 151 N. Ninth St., Reading, PA 19601. Interment with military honors will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Twp.
