Garrett, 80, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at Cornwall Manor. He was born in Wyomissing, to Lee and Esther (Mellinger) and grew up in Womelsdorf. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice M. (Felty) Garrett, and brothers, Richard and Sherwood. Robert was a graduate of Womelsdorf High School Class of 1949 and worked at American Casualty Co. until 1952. He then served with the U.S. Army in Korea until 1954, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He then worked for Bethlehem Steel from 1955-1973 when he moved to Virginia and worked for the Federal Govt., until retiring in 1990. He was a member of Linglestown Life United Methodist Church, Mt. Olivet Lodge 704 F&AM, Lebanon, Kena Shriners Temple, Scottish Rite Temple, Royal Order of Jesters, and Legion of Honor Commander, all of Virginia, and the York Rite, Lebanon. He loved sports and hunting. He is survived by his sister, Winifred Vajdic; many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly; and a friend, Joyce Raihl. Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 6011 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg. The Rev. George Reynolds, his pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Grand View Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until time of services.
