Gockley, 84, of Manchester Township, died Sunday, April, 1, 2012, at his residence. He was the husband of Helen C. (Davis) Gockley. The couple celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on September 20, 2011. There will be a viewing from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road in York. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Christman's Funeral Home, Inc., 226 Cumberland St. in Lebanon, with a viewing from 10 to 11 am. The Rev. Matthew Heckman will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in Kochenderfer's "Zion" Cemetery in Lebanon with full military honors by VFW Post #23. Mr. Gockley was born in Lebanon, on April 14, 1927, son of the late Marvin B. and Lydia (Snyder) Gockley. He worked as a mechanical engineer for Raymond Corporation in Greene, N.Y., and retired as the Senior Project Engineer for Campbell Chain Company in York. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII, where he was stationed in Italy. Mr. Gockley was a member of the NRA, Heritage Foundation, Trout Unlimited, Shiloh American Legion, and a former member of Manchester Lion's Club. He enjoyed antique tool collecting, woodworking, and cabinet making. He loved the outdoors and particularly enjoyed fly fishing for trout on the Madison River in Montana, deep sea fishing for marlin in the Atlantic, and muskie and bass fishing on White Fish Lake in Ontario Canada. He was an avid photographer who had winning ribbons at the York Fair and was published in Pennsylvania magazines and calendars. Mr. Gockley leaves three daughters, Carol A. Fink and her husband, Dan of Myerstown, Robin S. Gockley of North Carolina, and Diane E. Gockley of Texas; a son, David A. Gockley and his wife, Cheryl of Hellam; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert C. Gockley of South Carolina, Paul L. Gockley of Lebanon, and Fred Gockley of Lansdale; a sister, Joyce E. Myers of Carlisle; and several nieces and nephews.
