Gontz, 72, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2012, in the Masonic Village Health Care Center in Elizabethtown after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Hershey, on August 12, 1939, the son of the late Elmer E. and Esther M (Stutzman) Gontz. David graduated from West Chester State College in 1961 with a BS degree in secondary education. He taught from 1961 to 1965 at Annville Cleona Schools and retired as a sales representative and technology consultant for the Merrill and Glencoe and McGraw-Hill Publishing Companies with 35 years of service. David was a member of Palm Lutheran Church, Palmyra; a life member of both the Lebanon County Historical Society and Citizens Fire Company #1, Palmyra; a member of Whistle Pig Fishing Club in Hillsgrove; Palmyra Sportsman Assn.; a member and Past Master of Brownstone Lodge #666 F&AM in Hershey, where he served as Representative in the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania and Chairman of the 60th Masonic District's Masonic Education Committee; the York Rite Bodies of Lebanon, where he served as Most Excellent High Priest of Chapter, Thrice Illustrious Master of Council, and Eminent Commander of Commandery; the Knights of the York Cross of Honor; the Harrisburg Consistory; Tall Cedars of Lebanon Quittapahilla Forest #25, Lebanon; and Rajah Temple Shrine, Reading. David was also a member of the former Palmyra American Legion Band, the Rajah Temple Concert Band, and the Quittapahilla Forest Band. David is survived by wife, Patricia A (Perry) Gontz; daughter, Ayleen K. (Gontz) Stellhorn of Littlestown; son, Allen M. Gontz of Weymouth, Mass.; and granddaughters, Rachel and Veronica Stellhorn of Littlestown A viewing will be held Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hoover Funeral Home in Hershey beginning with a public Masonic Funeral Service at 5:45 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in his church. Inurnment will be in the Hanoverdale Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
