Hartranft, 87, died Saturday, January 21, 2012, at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He was the husband of Marie A. (Rutter) Hartranft to whom he was married 63 years on December 25. Born in Newmanstown, on January 15, 1925, he was the son of the late Elias and Katie (Hippert) Hartranft. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, survived a landing in Normandy and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of five battle stars and one bronze star. He was had been employed at E.J. Levino Co., Sheridan for 25 years, retiring in 1970. He was a member of Millcreek Lutheran Church, Newmanstown; Newmanstown Volunteer Fire Co. Social Club; Newmanstown Athletic Assn. and a life member of the Myerstown VFW. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sisters, Margaret Greth of Wernersville, Kathryn Zerbe of Newmanstown; brother, Robert Hartranft of Womelsdorf; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from Millcreek Lutheran Church, 221 N. Sheridan Rd., Newmanstown. There will be no viewing or visitation. Interment at Millcreek Memorial Cemetery, Newmanstown. Grose Funeral Home, Myerstown has been entrusted with the arrangements.
