USAF PALMYRA TSgt (Ret) Jay Wagner Hartz, USAF, 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 9, 2012, in The Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon. He was predeceased by his loving wife Virginia Anne (Herwegh) Hartz on December 22, 2008. He was born Friday, January 4, 1935, in Annville Township, to the late Jacob and Mary Ellen (Speraw) Hartz. He was a 1952 graduate of Annville High School and retired as TSgt from the U.S. Air Force, in September 1972, after 22 years of service. He was a Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and received numerous commendations and citations during his decorated career. He was a member of the Annville American Legion, Post 559. He is survived by a nephew, Keith L. Ulrich and wife, Diana of Gettysburg; two nieces, Kendra L. Werner of West Chester, and Karen L. Fox and husband Harry of Palmyra; several great-nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by four brothers, Fred, Larry, Jack, and twin brother Ray Hartz; one sister, Mildred Ulrich. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra. Family and friends are invited for viewing from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Burial with full military honors will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Wounded Warrior Project.
