  CEDAR RAPIDS, IA Evelyn Hauer, 98, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed peacefully 
  after a long and prosperous life on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Hiawatha Care 
  Center, Iowa. Evelyn Moore Sowers Hauer was born December 4, 1913, in 
  Gettysburg, to the late William and Ellen Moore Sowers. She obtained her 
  degree from the former Shippensburg State Teachers College in 1933 and was 
  granted her Teaching Certificate by the State of Pennsylvania. She taught 
  elementary Math and English at Hummelstown Elementary School. On November 9, 
  1944 she married Abraham "Harold" Hauer in New York City and together with her 
  father-in-law, Herman E. Hauer, they owned and operated Hauer's Department 
  Store in Hummelstown for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband 
  Harold in 1994. Surviving are her son, Tom (Toni) Hauer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 
  granddaughter Heather (Dave) Boyle of Hummelstown; grandson, Andrew (Reagan) 
  Hauer of Lancaster; great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Alexis Boyle and Zoe 
  Hauer; sister, Charlotte E. Sowers of Cedar Rapids; and brother, William R. 
  Sowers. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Buse Funeral Home, 2 
  E. Main St., Hummelstown, preceded by a viewing from 1 p.m. Interment will be 
  in Hummelstown Cemetery with her husband.
