Heisey, 95, formerly of Annville, died Saturday, February 11, 2012, in the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, Palmyra. He married Blanche Foltz Heisey in 1938 and they would have celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary in May 2012. Born in South Annville Twp., on December 8, 1916, he was the son of the late Walter E. and Irene Boyer Heisey. He started the H & H Tack Shop, Annville, in 1948 from which he retired in 1979. Before going into the tack business, he was superintendent of the Annville Water Company. Gene graduated from Cornwall High School in 1934, was a member of Zion Evangelical Congregational Church, Annville, and was the past Director of the English, Western Retailers of America. He was a past president and treasurer of the Annville Rotary Club, was named Rotarian of the Year in 1980-1981, served as chairman of Rotary District 7390 World Fellowships, a member of the World Fellowship of Scouting and Horseback Riding, where he served as the American representative and had ridden in five countries. He also served as Group D representative for Rotary District 7390, was a member of the Annville American Legion Home Association, and past president of the Annville Free Library Trustees. He was a life member of the following organizations: Lebanon County Fireman's Association; Lebanon County Workshop; Annville Union Hose Fire Company; American Horse Show Association; Zembo Mounted Patrol; International Shrine and Mid Atlantic Shrine Horse Patrols; the Horse Shoe Trail Club; Lebanon County Humane Society; and the Zembo Temple, Harrisburg. He was instrumental in starting the Lebanon County 4-H Horse Program and the riding program with the Lebanon YMCA Camp Kiwanis. He was a merit badge counselor for horsemanship and a century member of the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a member of Mt. Olivet Lodge #704, F.&A.M., Lebanon; Ancient Scottish Rite Valley of Harrisburg; the York Rite Bodies; Tall Cedars of Lebanon Quittapahila Forest #25; Lebanon County Shrine Club, in which he served as president in 1990 and was a past treasurer; the Hershey Shrine Club; Cumberland County Shrine Club; and the Zembo Luncheon Club. He was an honorary member of the Nur Temple, Delaware, and Rajah Temple, Reading. He served as secretary-treasurer of the Mid-Atlantic Shrine Association for 23 years and secretary-treasurer of the International Shrine Horse Patrols for 15 years. He was chosen International Horse Patrol Shriner of the Year in 1978 and Mid- Atlantic Horse Patrol Shriner of the year in 1995. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, E. David Heisey, Jr. of Burbank, Calif.; two daughters, Barbara A. Longenecker of Annville and Helen L. Ferguson of Hummelstown; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rosemary Fry of Palmyra. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Heisey. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the DiMatteo Worship Center at the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, 1200 Grubb Road, Palmyra. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Covenant Cemetery, N. Lebanon Twp. Friends may call on Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the Worship Center. Masonic services will be held at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday morning. Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, Annville, is in charge of arrangements.
