M. shabodeho@aol.com January 31, 2012, 9:26 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on January 26, 2012 Mary Ann Hernley LEBANON Mary Ann Richard Hernley, 82, died Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon. She was the wife of Delmas M Hernley. Delmas and Mary Ann had just celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in December 2011. Born in Fredericksburg, on July 31, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Kathryn Gingrich Richard. Mary Ann graduated from Fredericksburg High School with the class of 1947. She was also enrolled for two and half years at Lankenau Hospital School of Nursing. Mary Ann dedicated many years of her life to taking care of her daughter, Wanda. She was a lifetime member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg, where she was very active in the Lutheran Church Women. She sang as a soloist in the church choir, played the piano, and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a member of Fredericksburg American Legion, and was past president of the Fredericksburg Elementary PTA and the Fredericksburg High School Alumni Association. Mary Ann was a delegate for the N. Lebanon Young Farmers Association and active in FFA and 4-H, helping with community activities. Mary Ann hosted a foreign exchange student from Germany and she was always there for her family and friends. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Shawn D. Hernley and wife, Karen of Lebanon; two daughters, Carmelle J. Hernley of Lebanon, and Heather L., wife of Steve Sharer of Laceyville; five grandchildren, Merritt, Amber, and Miranda Hernley, and Kyle and Richard Sharer; and two great-grandchildren, Makenzie and Jayden West. She was predeceased by a daughter, Wanda Mae Hernley; three brothers, John Glen Richard, Lynn G. Richard, and Dale E. Richard Sr.; and two sisters, E. Nita Richard and June B. Matthews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 30, at 11 a.m. from the St. John's Lutheran Church, 3050 S. Pine Grove St., Fredericksburg 17026. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery. A viewing will take place on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Rt. 72 and Camp Meeting Road, Jonestown, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
