Highfield, 70, passed away Monday, March 5, 2012 at the Lebanon VA Medical Center. He was born on August 30, 1941 in Cincinnati, Ohio, son of the late Charles and Martha Hounshell Keller. He was a caregiver at the Lebanon VA Medical Center. He served with the U.S. Army for 20 years as a medic and served 3 tours in Viet Nam, during the Viet Nam Conflict. He was a member of the Masonic Order and volunteered the first Monday of each month feeding the homeless. John is survived by children, Ed, husband of Candice Highfield, Lebanon; Sandy, wife of Bobby Spooner, Gulfport, Miss.; John Highfield, Lebanon; Cathy Highfield, Lancaster; Michael, husband of Melissa Highfield, Lancaster; grandsons, Jared, Demetrius, Dashawn, Dayonte; granddaughter, Elisha May; brother, Gerald L. Highfield, Harrisburg; and sister, Jean, wife of Donald Eichelberger, Marietta. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend John's funeral services on Friday at 11 a.m. from Ruffner-Porterfield Funeral Directors & Cremation Services, Ltd., 890 Isabel Dr., (next to Quentin Circle), Lebanon, with Major George Polarek officiating. A viewing will be held Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. and an hour prior to service on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be held in Grand View Memorial Park, Annville, with full military honors.
