  LEBANON Retired BMCS Gabriel P. "Chief" Hlavaty, Sr., 88, who resided with his 
  daughter Frances, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 26, 2012, in 
  the VA Hospice Unit. He was the husband of Ruth A. (Young) Hlavaty who went 
  home to be with the Lord in 2007. Born in Lebanon, on July 10, 1924, Gabriel 
  was a son of the late John and Mary (Mikula) Hlavaty. He retired after serving 
  his country in the U.S. Navy for 30 years, fighting in three wars - WWII, 
  Korea, and Vietnam. He enjoyed playing poker, horse racing, gardening, and 
  spending time with his family. He is survived by five children, Gabriel, Jr. 
  and his wife, Jane, John, Frances, David, and Mary; six grandchildren, Liberty, 
  Anthony, Annie, Jose, Thomas, and David; five great-grandchildren, Darin, 
  Felicia, Hannah, Lindsey, and Alyza; one sister, Caroline Pressel; and a 
  brother, Edward. Also special to him were Angela, Crystal, Nancy, Anthony, 
  Nikki, Paul, Sal, Jack, Aiden, and Olivia. He was preceded in death by three 
  sisters, Florence Neuin, Mary Henry, and Appalonia Hlavaty; and two brothers, 
  Frank and John. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 31, 2012, at 10 
  a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., 126 S. 9th St., Lebanon 17042. Viewing 
  will be held Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. Interment with full military honors will 
  be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be 
  made to Eldercare East, Lebanon, Pa., or The Humane Society of Lebanon, 
  Myerstown, Pa.
