Kohl, 82, formerly of Myerstown, Naples and Longwood, Fla., passed away Sunday, January 22, 2012, at The Highlands of Wyomissing, Reading. Born April 4, 1929 in Lebanon, he was the son of the late H. Roy and Helen (Dissinger) Kohl. Graduated from Mercersburg Academy in 1947, attended Penn State University prior to serving in the U.S. Army in Korea. He served in the PA National Guard, retiring in 1973 as a Major, Commander of Battery D, 3rd AW Battalion, Lebanon. James was married to Joyce Frees of Sinking Spring until her passing in May 2010. They shared 59 years filled with fond memories of friends and family, bridge, golf and travel together. Surviving Jim is his brother, H. Robert Kohl and wife Claire of Heathrow, Fla.; daughter, Deborah Kearse, wife of Joseph T. Kearse of Wyomissing; son, Jeffrey Kohl of Lebanon; three grandchildren, Amy McKnett, wife of W. Eric McKnett of Downingtown, Leah Cline, wife of Brandon Cline of Lebanon, Jenna Kohl of Lebanon; and two great- grandchildren, Kohl and Jack Cline. James worked in the family business, Kohl Brothers Well Drilling. In 1963, he became President of Kohl Roofing and Siding, Sinking Spring. Under Jim's direction the firm grew to five branches by his retirement in 1993. Jim's integrity, belief in his employees and dedication to his customers built the foundation of Kohl Building Products, celebrating their 65th anniversary. Jim was involved in Home Builders Association of Berks County, Rotary Club, Williamson Lodge No. 307, Rajah Shrine and life member of Heidelberg Country Club, Bernville, PA. Jim was a member of St. John's Hain's Church, Wernersville and Altamonte Chapel, Altamonte Springs, Fla. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 28th at 10:30 a.m. at Lantern Lodge Convention Center, Myerstown. Private interment will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
