Bea, as all of her friends knew her, was born in 1921 in Baltimore, Md., to Rev. Phares B. Gibble and Pearl Sherk. Along with her four siblings, Alfred, Wilbur, Phares, and Velma, she grew up in a very tight knit and supportive family. She worked very hard in high school, shining in basketball, and was an amazing jitterbug dancer. Upon graduating from high school and after working for Hershey Chocolate Company for a short while, she decided to see a bit of the world. With a spirit of adventure, she struck out on her own and went west. After spending a brief period in Salt Lake City, Utah, she went on to settle in Santa Monica, Calif., in 1944. She had numerous jobs there, including working for Merle Norman, but the most interesting was working at Northrop Aircraft, assembling the famous P-61 Black Widow night fighter - a regular "Rosie the Riveter." It was in Southern California that she met her husband to be, John Kullman, and married August 28, 1947. In keeping with her athletic background, she enjoyed snorkeling and skiing as regular activities. In 1954, she had a son, Duke Michael. After 10 years, her marriage ended and in 1960, Bea took her son and moved back to central Pennsylvania where her roots were. First settling in Mt. Gretna, then eventually Palmyra, where, with the support of her family, she put her life back together and raised her son. She worked at Sears in Harrisburg for 26 years, retiring at age 62. She was an avid tennis player and served as a Sunday school teacher at the First United Methodist Church in Palmyra. In later years she took up swimming religiously, garnering recognition for her persistence and longevity. Her life has been graced for many years by Yvonne Chaney, friend since childhood and constant swimming companion, and loyal friend, Jane Aftosmes, wife of Pete Aftosmes. Her nephew, Ned Gibble and his wife, Pat Gibble, have been constant companions, caregivers, and closest relatives for much of her later life. Their contribution to her happiness and well being cannot be overstated. She is survived by her son, Duke Kullman and wife, Dana Cobern-Kullman; granddaughter, Ilyse Kullman; sister-in-law and frequent companion, Joan Gibble; and her older sister, Velma, who at the grand age of 99 resides in Las Vegas Nev. There will be private ceremonies in Mt. Gretna and Los Angeles, Calif.
