M shabodeho@aol.com September 16, 2012, 12:55 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on September 12, 2012 DALLAS, PA Mamie Gajda Lafferty, 99, formerly of Nanticoke, was taken by the Angels and placed in the arms of the Lord on Thursday morning, September 6, 2012, at the Mercy Center, Dallas. Born July 27, 1913, in Wanamie, Mamie was the daughter of the late Andrew and Julia (Kamionka) Babula and was a graduate of the former Newport High School. A homemaker most of her life, Mamie was dedicated to tending to her family and home. She worked as a secretary for the Nanticoke Housing Authority. Prior to returning to the Wyoming Valley, Mamie resided in Orlando, Fla., for approx. 20 years. Mamie was a faithful catholic and was a member of St. Faustina Parish, Nanticoke. She was a woman of many enjoyments, especially polka dancing, traveling, gardening, sewing, and baking. But her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 45 years, Edward Gajda, and by her second, William Lafferty, of 19 years; by a son, Thomas Gajda who passed away February 21, 2006; three brothers; and two sisters. She is presently survived by loving daughters, Patricia Sergott and husband, John of Lebanon, and Carol Baron and husband, Ronald of Nanticoke; a loving stepdaughter, Diane Santelli and husband, Tony of Edgewood, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren; sister, Ida Patterson and husband, Leroy of Seattle, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Mass on Thursday, September 13, 2012, at 11 a.m. in St. Faustina Parish, Holy Trinity worship site, 520 Hanover St., Nanticoke, with her pastor, the Rev. James Nash, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Nanticoke. There will be no public calling hours. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Grontkowski Funeral Home P.C., 51-53 W. Green St., Nanticoke, Pa.
