Albert Ira Lingle, 89, died Thursday, September 6, 2012, in the Lebanon VA Medical Center. Born in the local area May 31, 1923, to the late Ira N. and Blanche Sanders Lingle, he was married 31 years to Mary Zaginaylo, who died in 1973, and he was a companion of 11 years to Lucy Schneck, who died in 1987. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wilmer Lingle. A 1941 graduate of Hershey High Vocational School, he later pursued courses in Engineering from Penn State. He was employed in the PennDOT bridge design division for 31 years and retired as a Civil Engineer in 1978. In 1983 he was a consultant for Buchart-Horn in Baltimore, Md. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he also served in the Air National Guard during the Korean War. He held a private pilot's license from 1947-1953. In 1953 he became physically handicapped by polio. He was a country-western guitarist most of his life, most notably with the Country Velvet during the 1970's. They went on a cultural exchange tour of the communist country of Romania with the Keystone Square square dance group from Penn State. He was an expert amateur photographer and astronomer, former member of the Harrisburg Astronomical Society, and a life member of the NRA. Surviving are his sons Daniel, husband of Kitty Lingle of Green Point, and Thomas Lingle of Mechanicsburg; daughters, Sandra, wife of Bryant Deutschman of Des Plaines, Ill., and Lily, wife of David Horst of Campbelltown; sister, Pauline Reichard, and half sister, Janice Steiner, both of Lebanon; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Viewings will be held Tuesday 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. with a Celebration of his Life Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at 1:30 p.m., all at the Buse Funeral Home, 145 N. Grant St., Palmyra. Interment with military honors will be in Grand View Memorial Park, Annville. Visitors should feel free to wear casual country attire. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Humane Society of Lebanon County, Myerstown, Pa.
