She was born on March 4, 1940, in a stone farmhouse in Schaefferstown, to Ephraim and Elizabeth Hoffman. She grew up in Berks Co. Pa. and was a 1958 graduate of Wilson High School where she was a Varsity Cheerleader, National Honor Society member, a player on the varsity field hockey and softball teams. Ann was a member of the school chorus, a commencement speaker and the Class Secretary. After graduation she worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Dept. of Public Assistance in Reading, Pa. for 2 years as a secretary. In 1959 Ann was crowned Miss Reading USO at Indiantown Gap Military Reservation. She moved to Washington, D.C. and began working for the Bureau of Yards and Docks with the Navy Civil Service. While in Washington she had the opportunity to attend the inaugural of President John F. Kennedy. Ann then transferred to Naval Station, Bermuda as a Position Classifier. In Bermuda she met her husband, LTjg Larry Myers, CEC, USN and in January 1963 they were married in a military ceremony at the station chapel. Over the next 22 years the Navy sent Ann and her husband to 14 different duty stations in North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Texas, Rhode Island, Mississippi, California and Florida. Ann volunteered numerous hours for the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society and eventually became their Office Manager at NAS, Jacksonville. Ann and family resided for 17 years in Orange Park and then moved to Fernandina Beach, Fla., in 1990, where she enjoyed the beach and beautiful Amelia Island. Ann began volunteering at the Barnabas Center and continued to do so for 10 years, becoming the Office Manager. She organized the annual awards luncheon for Barnabas' volunteers. As a fund raising venture for Barnabas, Ann, along with other volunteers, initiated the "House of Possibilities" a design house. Their first project was a renovation/remodel of the Pippi Longstockings House in Old Town. The precedent continued for a number of years and raised thousands of dollars for Barnabas. In the spring of every year Ann coordinated the table decorations for the Nassau County Volunteer Center's Awards Luncheon. She was a Rotary Ann for 20 years and during that time she raised funds for Rotary by hosting, planning, and preparing gourmet meals for a winner of the annual silent auction prizes. Ann hosted the annual "Fire Side Chat" for new Rotary Club members. As a Terpsichorean club member she coordinated and prepared many memorable New Year's breakfasts with assistance from the "Urban Tribe". Ann and Larry were members of AIP chapel. They renovated 2 adjoining historic houses in downtown Fernandina Beach and opened a B & B, now the Blue Heron Inn. Ann loved meeting people and entertaining. Planning and preparing gourmet meals were a passion that lasted throughout her life. During her illness she rose to the occasion when hosting dinner parties for her friends and family. Ann's other true passion was her children & grandchildren. She always knew the right thing to say or had the perfect gift to make them feel special. Ann knew how to have a good time and her grandchildren were happy to join in the fun. Because of her love of cooking, she relished passing the baton to a new generation of passionate chefs. Ann was preceded in death by her parents.
