Pyles, Sr. was born December 6, 1921 in Lebanon and passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012 in the Lebanon VA Medical Center Hospice where he had been a resident since May 29, 2012. He was the son of the late John and Mabel Pyles and was married to Betty L. Habecker Pyles, Lebanon for 65 years. George was a proud veteran of WWII, where he served in the U. S. Army in Europe and North Africa. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and went to work at Indiantown Gap, having retired in 1981 with over 35 years of service. In his younger days he also worked in the Conservation Corps. There was nothing George loved more than working on cars and boats or fishing on the ocean with his family and friends. Never one to sit, he always had a project to work on, always helping others along the way. Since August of 2011 he had made almost daily trips to visit his wife Betty who is residing in Cedar Haven. In 1982 George and Betty Moved to Port Orange, Fla., where they resided until May of 2011 when they relocated to Millsboro, Del. In August of 2011 they returned to Lebanon for good. In addition to his wife, George is survived by sons, George, Jr., Jeffry and wife Linda, with whom he has resided since August of 2011; Thomas, Craig and wife Karlene, daughter-in-law: Sharon Pyles; grandchildren: Lori Beachell, Malissa wife of Chip Conrad; Jesse Pyles, Rebecca wife of Devon Snyder; Laura Pyles, Dana wife of Brian Lambert; stepdaughters: Melissa Miller and Chelsea Yocum; nine great-grandchildren and step grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister: Jeanette Reed, Steelton; nieces and nephews as well as his wife's sisters and brothers. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Scott and grandson, Corey; sisters: Rosemary Rittle and Shirley Leibold; and brothers: Harvey Kelley, Lloyd Pyles, Richard Pyles, John Pyles and James Pyles, Sr. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Rohland Funeral Home, 508 Cumberland St., Lebanon, 17042 where a viewing will begin at 9 a.m. Interment with full military honors will be held in the National Cemetery at Ft. Indiantown Gap. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Lebanon VA Medical Center Hospice.
