For almost 50 years, he was the husband of Verna Jean Hoffer, or as he called her, his Honey Wife. Born in Hamburg, on April 16, 1932, he was the son of the late Raymond J. and Laura F. Wagner Rentschler. Wayne retired from Quaker Alloy, where he had worked for 35 years. He was a long time and faithful member of the St. John's UCC, Fredericksburg. He served on Consistory for many years and was a member of the Men's Fellowship, a pitcher for its softball team and was also on the church's bowling league. He enjoyed his cars, going to K-Mart with his buddies, playing pinochle, throwing quoits, reading the newspaper and cheering on his favorite team, the Dodgers. He was known to all as the "Gum Man." He would go to complete strangers and offer gum as a token from the church. This, and so much more, made him happy. He loved life to the fullest. How sweet it was, to be loved by our daddy Wayne was greatly loved and respected by his family and friends. He had a loving heart, a huge voice, a generous spirit and a strong faith in God. He always was giving a hand. He showed great courage, kept a smile on his face and placed no blame, while fighting cancer. We loved him, but like he said with a big smile on his face, "I love you more." In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Faydeen wife of Levi Gerhart, Wayne Rentschler, Jr., Denise wife of Richard Voshell, Steven Hetrick, Cynda Hetrick wife of John Kless and Sandra wife of Joseph Drupp; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Kathryn wife of the late Elbert Myers; and many nieces and nephews. He was a wonderful, devoted husband and father. He was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth Rentschler, Lester, husband of Hattie Rentschler, Lee husband of Patricia Rentschler, Norman husband of Priscilla Rentschler; and a sister, Shirley wife of Melvin Hernley. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the St. John's United Church of Christ, Fredericksburg. Viewing will be on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral home & Crematory, Rt. 72 & Camp Meeting Rd., Jonestown and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church or to the GSH-Hospice, Lebanon, Pa.
