"Butch" Royer, 89, passed away peacefully at the Lebanon VA Hospice Center on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. He was the husband of Edith McMinn Royer with whom he celebrated 70 years of marriage on January 16, 2012. Born January 21, 1923, he was the son of the late John and Grace Royer. Butch was a 1940 graduate of Lebanon High School after which he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Pacific during World War II and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He returned home and pursued a Master Plumber certification and owned and operated his own plumbing and heating business until 1974. He then worked for the Lebanon School District as Director of Building and Grounds. A lifelong resident of Lebanon, Butch was active in many organizations. He served on the Lebanon School Board and sat as its president. He also served on the Board of the Lebanon County Vocational School. He was active in Kiwanis Club, The Lebanon Jaycees, The Lebanon Country Club, and he was a founder of The Valley Beach Club. He was a member of the Masons, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and the Zembo Shriners. He worshipped at St. Mark's United Church of Christ, Lebanon. Butch was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Richard and Paul. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Betty Dissinger; and three daughters, Eileen (Edward) Gilbert, Sharon (Charles) Warfel, and Julie Royer, all of Lebanon. He also leaves three grandchidlren, Michael (Teresa) Gilbert of Atlanta, Ga., Jennifer Lillenstein of Lebanon, and Sarah (Michael) Gifford of Portland, Ore. He was the proud great-grandfather of six great-grandchildren. A celebration of Butch's life will be held on Saturday, May 26, at St. Mark's United Church of Christ, 426 N. 8th St., Lebanon, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Butch's honor to St. Mark's U.C.S. or the Lebanon VA Hospice Unit.
