M. shabodeho@aol.com January 21, 2012, 2:36 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on January 8, 2012 Melvin O. Runkel LEBANON Melvin O. "Skip" Runkel, 77, died Friday, January 6, 2012, in his residence. He was the husband of Kathleen P. "Kitty" nee Brossman Runkle, to whom he was married for 50 years. He was born in Lebanon, on January 17, 1934, a son of the late George C. and Hilda Bell Runkel. He was a graduate of Lebanon High School, class of 1951, and he served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired welder, having worked for Cleaver Brooks for 35 years. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. Skip loved fishing and was a life member of the Krayko Fishing Club. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. He also enjoyed woodworking and going to Hershey Bears games. He was an avid bowler who bowled at many of the local club lanes. In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Michael E. and wife, Elizabeth Runkel of Jonestown, Jody L., wife of Barry Lerch of Lebanon, and Scott A. Runkel of Lebanon; and grandchildren, Kaylea L. Lerch and Ryan Runkel. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles H. Runkel. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Messiah Lutheran Church, 1800 Oak St., Lebanon, PA 17042 with the Rev. Barry S. Kendall officiating. There will be a viewing prior to the service at church on Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be made in Grand View Memorial Park with full military honors.
