Rutledge, 84, entered into God's eternal care Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at Homewood at Plum Creek Nursing Center. George was the loving husband of Betty M. (Miller) Rutledge, who died July 31, 1999. Born March 29, 1928, in Neodesha, Kan., he was the son of the late Edward P. and Wilma L. (Maltby) Rutledge. George was a graduate of Annville High School. He then graduated from Lebanon Valley College with a degree in music and obtained his Master's Degree in music from the University of Michigan. He served in the United States Air Force and was a member of the Air Force Band and an original member of the Singing Sergeants. Mr. Rutledge was a music teacher and band director for the Hanover Public School District for approximately 40 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Spring Garden band, an officer and member of the Lyric Band of Hanover for several years, as well as the Good Times Jazz Band. George was an avid photographer and especially enjoyed capturing photos of wildlife. George is survived by two daughters, Ann R. Farley and her husband, Michael D. of Hanover, and Susan R. Staub and her husband, Tony P. of Chesapeake, Va.; two grandsons, Joshua R. Farley of Halethorpe, Md., and his fiancee, Holley A. McRann of Baltimore, Md., and Matthew R. Farley and his wife, Audrey C. of Charleston, W.Va.; two grand- daughters, Jessica L. Staub and Katie E. Staub, both of Chesapeake, Va.; and one great-grandson, Henry Farley, and one great-grandaughter, Grace Farley, both of Charleston, W.Va. Following cremation, a visitation will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick St., Hanover. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of George may be made to the Lyric Band, Hanover, PA.
