PETERSBURG, FL William Jess Shartle, Jr., died Monday, June 4, 2012 at Bay Pines VA Hospice in St Petersburg, Fla. surrounded by his loving children. He resided with his daughter Marie in Clearwater, Fla. He was the husband of the late Marian (Schell) Shartle. Born in Lebanon, on January 26, 1927, he was the son of the late William and Nora Bowman Shartle. He graduated from Lebanon High School and served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Lebanon Electrical Assoc. and was retired from Reading/Conrail Railroad. Jess had his private pilot's license and loved to fly with friends and family. He also was an avid sailor and along with his wife, Marian, built several boats. He is survived by children, Carol (Gary) Underkoffler of Palmyra, Marie (Raymond) Fellenbaum of Clearwater, Fla., Debra (William) Naugle of Mechanicsburg, Crystal (William) Weary of Tampa, Fla., Lisa (John) Meyer of Lebanon and William (Debra) Shartle, III of Richland; grandchildren, Sheila Weidner, Muriel DeVore, John Fellenbaum, Michael Smith, Jessica Derrickson, Lindsey Naugle, Rebecca Meyer and Owen Shartle; and 15 great-grandchildren. One of 12 children survived by sisters, Lula Weik, Verna Ebright, Pauline Sattazahn and brother, Lester Shartle. He was preceded in death by brothers, Harrison Shartle, Paul Shartle, Ernest Shartle and sisters, Nora Boyer, Ruth Royer, Dorothy Shartle and Lola Groff. Exactly 66 years ago Jess lost his beloved brother and best friend Harrison during WWII. Today they celebrate their reunion. Funeral arrangements by Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, Clearwater, Fla. Interment at family discretion. A CELEBRATION OF LIFE for both Jess and wife Marian who passed away in March of this year will be held on August 5, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Christ Presbyterian Church, 1300 W. Maple St., Lebanon.
