M. shabodeho@aol.com April 14, 2012, 6:44 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on April 9, 2012 Cyrus Lester "Nick" Shimp LEBANON Cyrus "Nick" Lester Shimp, 85, formerly of Palmyra, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 6, 2012, at Cedar Haven Nursing Home in Lebanon. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Pauline (Miller) Shimp. He was born Tuesday, May 4, 1926, in Lebanon to the late Lester J. and Ruth (Youtz) Shimp. He graduated from Cornwall High School in 1944, served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and began his career at the Middletown Air Force Base specializing in small instrument repair. He later worked in New Cumberland at the Navy Depot as an aircraft mechanic and then Indiantown Gap in the Fire Department. He was a member of Salem UCC, Campbelltown Fire Company, Annville American Legion, F&AM of PA, Brownstone Lodge No. 666, Harrisburg Consistory, Rajah Shrine Reading and Lebanon, Tall Cedars of Lebanon. He loved his family and lived his life caring and giving to others as he was taught by his parents in the light of Christ. He is survived by two sons, Richard L. Shimp and wife Carol, and Terry S. Shimp and wife Cathy all of Key West, Fla.; two grandchildren, Michelle Wilson and husband Allen of Lawn, and Jonathan Shimp and wife Amy of Palmyra; four step-grandchildren, Jill Good, Mark, Vincent, and Todd Winters; four great-grandchildren, Dylan, Dalton, Connor, and Tyler Wilson; two step great-grandchildren, Kristen and Chris Good. He was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Ruth Shimp; and a grandson, Brian Shimp. Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, with Rev. Dwight Hein officiating. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at which time Masonic Services will be performed by Brownstone Lodge No. 666.
