  ORANGE/TOMS RIVER, NJ Frank Shupper, teacher, coach, and renowned athlete, 89, 
  passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2012, peacefully in his home surrounded 
  by his wife, Joyce, and his daughters, Lori and Lynda. Frank would want to be 
  remembered as a loving husband, father, teacher, and coach. He started his 
  career as a standout athlete in football and baseball at Rahway H.S., where he 
  is in the Rahway Hall of Fame. He received a full scholarship to Lebanon 
  Valley College where he lead the football team in scoring and became a player 
  and coach of the basketball team. He was recruited by the New York Yankees, 
  where he played AA ball, coached by Lefty Gomez, and played with Whitey Ford 
  and Yogi Berra. He started his coaching career in Palmyra, where he is in the 
  Palmyra Hall of Fame. Frank coached all three sports to state championships 
  over the next nine years. He then moved to Orange High School, N.J., where he 
  took a struggling football program to the Big 10 Conference and was recognized 
  in Essex County as Coach of the Year, 1963. His record was 8 in 1. He 
  completed his coaching career at West Orange High School, coaching the 
  football team to a winning season. Frank continued to teach physical education 
  in West Orange until he was 72 years of age. I asked one day why he didn't 
  move on to college or professional coaching after so many winning seasons, and 
  his response was his greatest gift was to help young boys grow into 
  responsible young men. Frank's father died before he was born, leaving his 
  mother with eight children. His football coach in high school helped him find 
  his way and obtain a full scholarship to Lebanon Valley College. He went on to 
  help many young men obtain scholarships to college. Frank met his wife, Joyce, 
  at Lebanon Valley College and they had three children, Lynda, Lori, and Craig. 
  Frank leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Joyce; his daughters, Lori and 
  Richard D'Aries of Succasunna, N.J., and granddaughters, Kim and Kelly 
  D'Aries, Lynda and Dave Seaman of Amelia Island, Fla., and grandsons, Trent, 
  Brad, and Drew Seaman, and Jason Shupper; and three great-grandchildren, 
  Jonathon, Caitlind, and Brianna Seaman. Frank's beloved son, Craig, passed 
  away three years ago. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012, from 
  12 noon until the funeral service at 1 p.m. at The Presbyterian Church of Toms 
  River, 1070 Hooper Ave., Toms River, N.J. A private burial will be held on 
  Monday at Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill.
