Smith, Sr., 68, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 14, 2012, in Spang Crest Manor. He was the husband of Carol Ann Swisloski. Born in Altoona, on December 13, 1943, he was the son of the late Harry James and Helen Cheers Smith. He was a graduate of Altoona High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Penn State University. James was a Vietnam and Desert Storm veteran who served in the U.S. Army, Air Force, and Air National Guard. He was employed at Ft. Indiantown Gap as a civil engineer. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church, a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, enjoyed parking cars at the St. Paul's Church Bazaar, reading, computers, and spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Ray A. Smith and wife, Mary C. of Montour Falls, N.Y., and James H. Smith, Jr. and wife, Noriko of Tokyo, Japan; a daughter, Jennie L., wife of Kimo Brossman of Cleona; a sister, Suzanne, wife of Dr. Richard Smith; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial Mass will be held Monday at 11 a.m. from St. Paul the Apostle Church, 125 S. Spruce St., Annville. Inurnment will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. There will be no viewing or visitation. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, TN., in his memory.
