Summers, Jr., 78, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim following a lengthy illness. He was born in Lancaster, to the late Lester and Dorothy (Weidel) Summers, and was the husband of Joan (Lesher) Summers, who died Jan. 31, 2008. Sonny was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Ephrata. He was a 1951 graduate of Ephrata High School. Mr. Summers, along with brother Harold were the second generation owners of Summers Trucking, Ephrata. He was also a member of the BPOE, Ephrata and the American Legion Cloister Post #429. A golfer, hunter and fisherman, he also liked playing poker and the Phillies and was a former softball player and coach. He enjoyed his cabin in Potter County and especially enjoyed his grandchildren and watching their sporting events over the years. Sonny is survived by three, sons Greg, husband of Jodi (Sorensen) Summers of Akron, Kenny, husband of Julie (Stark) Summers of Ephrata and Kelly, husband of Dena (Boecklen) Summers of Doylestown; a daughter, Leslie, wife of Shawn Rutt of Ephrata; 11 grandchildren, Chelsey, Michael, Katie, Tonya, Tori, Dylan, Branden, Dusten, Devin, Ryan and Ty; a great-grandchild, Carson; and a brother, Harold, husband of June (Wenger) Summers, Ephrata. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Roberta Ravegum. A viewing will be held on Sunday, April 15, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday, 9 to 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 68 N. Church St., Ephrata, followed by the funeral services at 10 a.m. with Pastor Walter S. Carter, officiating. Interment will take place in the Memory Gardens Memorial Cemetery, Ephrata.
