M shabodeho@aol.com September 1, 2012, 3:16 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on August 28, 2012 LANCASTER One of the greatest Eagles in franchise history, and Hall of Fame running back Steve Van Buren passed away from pneumonia at the age of 91, at home in Lancaster. He was the husband of the late Grace (Hewson) Van Buren. Born in La Ceiba, Honduras, Steve was the son of the late Steven W. and Lenare Van Buren. He is survived by three daughters: Grace, Lynare, and Gail; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ebert and Zed; and two sisters, Ann and Lillian. Preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie; two sisters, Madge and Ada; and a brother, Errol. Van Buren arrived in Philadelphia in 1944 as the Eagles first-round draft pick from LSU, and was the key factor in leading the Eagles to three straight division titles and back-to-back NFL championships in 1948 and 1949. Services are pending at this time. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Lebanon, is honored to serve the Van Buren family with Steve's arrangements.
