He is missed by his wife Nancy, with whom he shared the last twenty-five years, the VanDerhoof children, Lynne, Susan, and Doug, grandson, David Janiesch and his son-in-law, Robert Janiesch. He married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn, who died in 1985. He leaves behind people he touched during a career as an athlete at Drew University, his service in the Army Air Corps (retiring as a captain), earning a PhD at Columbia University, as a college professor in American History and political science, author of scholarly works including A Bibliography of Novels Relating to Colonial and Frontier History, and during his retirement, spending his last years at StoneRidge Retirement Village, Myerstown. A memorial service will be held at the family's convenience. Grose Funeral Home, Inc., Myerstown has been entrusted with the arrangements.
