Van Fleet, 85, died Monday, March 19, 2012, at StoneRidge Towne Centre, Myerstown. He was the husband of Marian L. (Nicholas) Van Fleet to whom he would have been married 58 years on August 20. Born in Trenton, New Jersey on October 5, 1926, he was the son of the late Laurence and Lena (Hyde) Van Fleet. A 1945 graduate of Trenton High School, he earned a bachelor of arts degree at Houghton College, New York, in 1953 and a graduate degree in administration supervision at Rutgers University in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was employed as a principal by the Vernon Twp. Board of Education, Sussex County, New Jersey, for 12 years, retiring in 1980. He also served numerous other school districts for 25 years and spent 3 years with his wife as house parents at Bethany Children's Home, Womelsdorf, following his retirement. He attended the Evangelical Free Church, Jonestown, was a member of Gideons International, and enjoyed camping and traveling. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sheryl, wife of Robert Fieldhouse of Vernon, New Jersey; son, David, husband of Robin Van Fleet of Flushing, New York; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. from Grose Funeral Home, 358 W. Washington Ave., Myerstown. Viewing at 12 p.m. Interment with military honors at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Twp.
