He was born on Sunday, July 30, 1922, to Roy Wentling and Katie Wentling nee Fields in Ono. He retired from Hershey Foods. He was a veteran of the Army in World War II and received Army Meritorious Unit Citation, Good Conduct, American Campaign, Asiatic Pacific, Victory Medal, Occupational Medal, and Philippine Liberation Medal. He served in the 534th Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment in Australia, Philippines, and Japan. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Fields enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling to the islands. Surviving are sons, Edward A., spouse of Joann Wentling of Lebanon, and Ronald F. Wentling of Lebanon; daughter, Nancy L., spouse of Woodrow B. Shay of Lebanon; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife, Marian G. Wentling. Viewing will be on Monday, July 9, 2012, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Christman's Funeral Home, Inc., 226 Cumberland St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be on Monday, July 9, 2012, at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to VA Medical Center Hospice. Christman's Funeral Home, Inc. is honored to serve the family with the arrangements.
