Fifth street. He was a tinsmith and engaged in the business for many years at Ninth and Chestnut streets, retiring five years ago, since which time his son, William Rice, has continued the business. During the Rebellion he served as a musician in the Perseverance band, then known as the Ninety-third regiment, Pennsylvania volunteers band, and was a member of Sedgwick Post, No. 42, G. A. R. He was a member of the First U. E. church and of the Perse fire company. In politics he was a Republican. He was a useful citizen and had a wide circle of friends, and his death is much regretted.
