The obsequies over the remains of the late Presiding Elder A. M. Stirk were 
observed on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, and there was an unusually large 
attendance, including many prominent clergyman of the United Evangelical 
denomination and others.  The services were very impressive and befitting.  The 
funeral took place from his late home, 367 North Eighth street, and the services 
were conducted in St. Paul's United Evangelical church, North Eighth street.  
Among those who attended were a number of G. A. R. members, the deceased having 
been a member of Sedgwick Post, No. 43, G. A. R., who were present in a body.  
Several thousand people from Lebanon and elsewhere viewed the remains as they 
lay in state at the Stirk home.

The body was simply robed in black, resting in a black and silver casket.  By 
request, there were few flowers, and only one design, a cross marked "Rock of 
Ages," from the congregation, found place in the room where the body lay.

Short services were conducted at the house by Rev. C. S. Haman, presiding elder 
of the Reading district.  In the church services were conducted by Rev. B. J. 
Smoyer, presiding elder, Myerstown; Rev. W. F. Heil, Allentown; Rev. J. D. 
Woodring, Reading, and Rev. C. S. Haman, of Reading.

The pall bearers were Rev. H. D. Schuytz, Sunbury; Rev. F. E. Erdman, Treverton; 
Rev. J. G. Sands, Steelton; Rev. F. Siechrist, Kleinfeltersville.

Interment took place on Mt. Lebanon cemetery, Hershberger & Son being the 
undertakers.
