Each summary contains some pertinent headlines related to the times, local, national, and world events. Most recording here will give priority to important local events relative to the town's history. Also maintained will be information that is of geneaological significance, like birth/death notices, birthdays, graduates, or anniversaries. THESE ARE NOT COMPREHENSIVE, as a good deal of the information contained in the papers are not of lasting historical or geneological value. Besides Catasauqua residents, there is loose coverage afforded to Whitehall and Northampton residents, presumably those familes who had ties to Catasauqua. ------------------------------------------------------- The Catasauqua Dispatch, Thursday, January 19, 1978 Vol. CV-No. 23 ------------------------------------------------------- Headlines --------- "Widow Sues Borough" p. 1 Summary: The widow of Klause "Cal" Mohle, Darlene Mohle, is suing the borough of Catasauqua for more than $10 thousand because her husband was killed in the process of demolishing the Old Eagle Brewery at Railroad and Mulberry Streets. When the south wall collapsed, it buried the 46-year old Slatington R.2 man who owned the building. Mrs. Mohle allegates that the borough should have known that the building was unsafe for some time prior to Aug. 5 1976 and that Mohle was inexperienced in demolition and that the borough failed to engage in the services of experienced demolition even though it received a federal grant to acquire and demolish the brewery. Mr. Mohle was buried under tons of rubble and it was seven hours after the collapse that rescue personnel were able to uncover his body. Parts of two other walls had to be knocked down first for safety reasons before searchers could look for Mohle's body.
