Samuel Kuhns, one of the most widely respected citizens of Lehigh county, died
early this morning at his home at Kuhnsville, half a mile from Litzenberg, Upper
Macungie, in the 82nd year of his age. He was in bed eight weeks, suffering from
a stroke of apoplexy. Mr. Kuhns was the owner of a fine farm, conducted for the
last twenty years by his son Richard. For 30 years he was proprietor of the
hotel at Kuhnsville, now abandoned…
He was a son of Dewalt Kuhns, who died over 40 years ago. He is survived by his
wife, who was a Moyer, two children, Richard Kuhns and Mrs. Isabella Ritter of
Kuhnsville; six grandchildren: Mrs. P. M. Fryman, of Litzenberg; Willis Kuhns,
of Allentown; and Charles, Samuel, Harry and Elwood Kuhns of Kuhnsville; one
daughter, Sarah, wife of Solomon Lichtenwallner of Trexlertown, died about 25
years ago. Mr. Kuhns was one of a large family, of whom the only survivor is Dr.
Wm. Kuhns of Quakertown…
The funeral will take place on Friday morning at the Jordan Lutheran Church of
which he was a life-long member. Rev. Mr. Semmel will officiate.
