Eveline Bright Markle, daughter of John & Elizabeth Markle was born Oct 14, 1822 2. Wm Christian Markle son of John & Elizabeth Markle was born Nov 25, 1824 3. George B. Markel son of John & Elizabeth Markel was born July 1, 1827. 4. Mary Margaret Markle daughter of John & Elizabeth Markle was born Dec the 19th, 1829 5. Emma Jane daughter of John & Elizabeth Markel was born August the 15, 1834 V10 Page 269 Deaths Wm Christian Markle, son of John & Elizabeth Markle departed this life on Saturday morning April 6th at four o'clock 1826 aged 16 months & 13 days. Elizabeth, consort of John Markle departed this life August the 5th, 1837 at six o'clock PM aged thirty eight years, four months & twenty six days. Eveline Bright Markle, daughter of John & Elizabeth Markel departed this life on Saturday evening Oct the 7, 1843 at 4 o'clock aged 20 yrs 11 mos & 23 days. Clarinda Sweeny (nee Penny) died Jany 18, 1867 aged 50 yrs 3 mos & 4 days John Markle died Mar 14, 1868 aged 82 years 4 mos & 18 days. ------------------- V10 Page 390 Benj F. Griffin No 201 Centre St Milton Northumberland Co Pa Oct 5, 1923 was printed in 1861 by Wm W. Harding Phila & the record is as follows: Births Mary M. Markle was born in Dec 19, 1829, daughter of John & Elizabeth Markle. William H. Griffin, son of Isaac & Elizabeth Griffin was born in the town of Providence, June 26, 1825. Their children: 1. John M. Griffin born Jany 30, 1854 2. Emma E. Griffin born July 30, 1856 3. Benjamin Franklin Griffin born Nov 17, 1860 4. Clarence Griffin born Aug 10, 1862 5. Clara S. Griffin born Dec 18, 1863 Deaths William H. Griffin died Mch 5, 1865 Mary M. Griffin died July 15, 1908 V10 Page 391 Benjamin F. Griffin was married to Sallie Springer, who died & is buried in Watsontown, her old home. They had but one child: Sallie Springer Griffin, born Feby 20, 1882 & who died Apr 12, 1882. ---------------------- An obituary notice found in the Bible of Geo B. Markle Sr says he died at the residence of his son John on West Broad St (Hazleton Pa) a few minutes before 11 o'c Saturday night, aged 61 yrs. Funeral services in the Pres Ch Thursday afternoon 1:30 Interment at Milton Private States: He was born in Milton Pa July 1, 1827 & was the son of John & Emily Markle. Attended the Common Schools & learned surveying. Left school at 14 & followed different avocations & at 17 went to Phila & learned carpentering while engaged as a carpenter he fell & hurt himself & rtd home, & went to Bloomburg Pa to help his father who had left Milton & gone to that place. At the age of 20, he married Miss Emily Robison of Bloomsburg. Their union was blessed with nine children, five of whom are living Miss Clara, Miss Ida, George B. Jr, John & Alvan. He moved to Hazleton Pa in 1849 & in 1858 formed the firm of G.B. Markle & Co & commenced mining coal in Jeddo. In 1872, his health commenced to fail & in 1879, he retired & spent 1879 1880 abroad. Spent winter of 83 84 in NY & as travel did not improve his health, he decided V10 Page 392 to spend his remaining years in quiet. He moved to Phila in 1874 & lived there since. He arrived in Hazleton May 14, to spend the summer where he became suddenly worse & the skill of the best physicians including Drs Costa & Mayo of Phila could avail nothing. Funeral notice of Mrs Geo B. Markle Sr which funeral took place from the residence of her son Alvan on West Broad St (Hazleton Pa) Services conducted by Dr John Hemphill D.D. of West Arch ST Pres Ch Phila of which she was a member compares her with Dorcas & cites a life full of good works. Pastor cited that often they would find a large roll of greenbacks in the contributions box with no hint from whom they came, but they always knew such rolls were also often sent to his home. His sermon was a beautiful eulogy. --------------------
