He enrolled at Easton, Pa on the 2nd day of November, 1863, as a private, in Co. A, 47 Regt., Veteran, Vol. Infty, of Pa. in the service of the U.S., in the Cival war, and was honorably discharged at Charleston, South Carolina, on the 25th day of Dec., 1865. That his personal description at enlistment was as follows: Height, 5 feet 3 inches; complextion - fair; color of eyes - blue ; color of hair - light; that his occupation was labourer . That his several places of residence since leaving the service have been as follows : Northampton County for 2 years. Been in Nanticoke, Luzerne County, Pa since 1868. Bureau of Pensions, Washington, D.C., Nov. 29, 1898 No other report on file. Cert. No. 834,809 Name Jacob Cosler, Co. A, 47 Reg't Pa., Inf. Record and Pension Office, War Department Respectfully returned to the Commissioner of Pensions. Jacob Cossler, Co. A, 47 reg't, Pa., Inf. was enrolled Nov. 2, 1863, and M. O. Dec. 25, 1865, ______ also as Jacob Kossler, but not as Jacob Cosler. >From En, to M.O. , he held the rank of private and during that period the rolls show him present except as follows, Aug 31, 1864, absent sick in Gen'l Hospt., Washigton, D.C.. Oct 31, 1864 , absent sick in hospt.. The medical records show him treated as follows: as Jacob Cassler, Pvt. Co A, 4- Pa. V., July 15 to 17 1864, Chronic ______: as J. Cossler, __________________________________ No 834,809 State of Pennsylvania, County of Luzerne, on this 31st day of May, 1899, personally appeared before me a Harry C. BOYER aged 25 years and Daniel DEHAVEN aged 36 years, resident of Nanticoke, Luzerne County, PA. and who being duly sworn, declares as follows: that we are personalley acquainted with Jacob COSLER for a period of 6 years and 15 years respectively, and were employed as ___ _____ in the mines of the Susquehanna Coal Company on the 27th day of Nov., 1896, and while in said mines a piece of rock from the place in which we worked fell and caught Cosler in the right foot fracturing it. The accident was not caused by any vicious habits. __________________________________ That on the Eleventh day of May in the year of Our Lord 1873 Jacob Cossler and Clarinda Foley were by me united in Marriage at Nanticoke, Pa. according to the laws of the State of Lewis C. Green, Justice of the Peace _________________________________ On Jacob's Pension records it states that Clarinda Noss was not previously married. Clarinda Noss was married to her first husband Frank Foley around 1870 or 1871. She was only married to him a few months when he was killed by a train, near Avondale, Pa., mine. (Plymouth, Luzerne County, Pa) Jacob Cosler died Oct. 22, 1924, in Nanticoke, Pa. ___________________________________ (Note - Jacob Cosler does not list any children on his pension records. On 1880 Census in Nanticoke, Pa. Jacob and Clarinda Cosler has an adopted daughter, named Elizabeth, age 12. Clarinda Cassler signs for Elizabeth Clase to marry Daniel DeHaven in 1888. Clarinda Cosler's Will leaves land and money to Rose Kivler, her grandaughter, and daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth DeHaven.)
