Laudenslager Dies; Former Weatherly Mayor Ray V. Laudenslager, a member of Weatherly Borough Council, a former mayor of the borough and a veteran educator, died Monday in St. Joseph Hospital, Hazleton. He resided at 21 Eurana Ave., Weatherly. He was elected mayor in the 1965 general election, but was defeated in his bid for re-election four years later. He was named to council last October to replace Conrad Peiffer Jr. A veteran educator, Laudenslager spent 40 years in the field of education, including 35 as supervising principal of Weatherly schools. He retired in 1963 and two years later was successful in his bid for the mayor’s job in the borough. He was graduated from Selinsgrove High School in 1919 and Susquehanna University. He did graduate work at New York University and Pennsylvania State University. He was a director of the Anthracite Building & Loan Association, Weatherly, for 32 years and was the first president of the Weatherly Rotary Club when it was organized in 1937. Surviving are his widow, the former Grace Cawley, two daughters, Jill, wife of John Chirgotis of Ontario, Canada, and Meredith, wife of retired Army Col. Grady Rials of Lake Charles, La., and nine grandchildren. Services will be at the convenience of the family.
