(Bridgeton, N. J.) 1851-1884: February 16, 1861 Death of Rev. Dr. Murray. Rev. Nicholas Murray, D. D., better known as “Kirwan,” a very distinguished minister of the Presbyterian Church, died suddenly at his residence in Elizabeth City, on Monday night, Feb. 4th, of neuralgia of the heart. He was a native of Ireland, and came to this country in 1816, when about 14 years old. He was, we understand, apprenticed to the printing business in Harper's establishment, and while there attracted the attention of benevolent persons connected with Rev. Dr. Spring’s Church, who provided for his education at William's College, where he graduated about 1825. being in one of the first classes that passed through the institution after Dr. Griffin became President. He studied theology at Princeton, and was settled at Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He succeeded Rev. Dr. McDowell as pastor of the 1st Presbyterian Church at Elizabeth, in 1831, and remained in that connection till his death. His age was 58. As a religious writer he was widely known in this country and in Europe.
