He was born and raised in Lancaster Co., PA, and served in a Lancaster Co. unit at the end of the Civil War: DECLARATION FOR REMARRIED WIDOW?S PENSION Section 2, Act of September 8, 1916 State of Pennsylvania, County of Lycoming, ss: On this 1st day of November, 1916, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public, within and for the County and State aforesaid Mary A. Bennett, who, being duly sworn by my according to law, declares that she is 71 years of age, and that she was born October 22, 1845, in York Co., Pa. That she was formerly the widow of Emanuel Stibgen, who enlisted February 22, 1865, at ____ under the name of Emanuel Stibgen as a Private in Co. ?J? 195? Regt. Pennsylvania Vols and was honorably discharged January 31, 1866, having served therein during the Civil War. That otherwise that as herein stated said soldier (or sailor) was not employed in the United States service. That she was married to said soldier (or sailor) July 27, 1871, under the name of Mary A. Wolf at Northumberland, Pa. By Rev. B.F. Stephens; that she had not been previously married; that he had not been previously married. That said soldier (or sailor) died February 16th, 1872, at Sunbury, Pa., and that she was not divorced from him. That she was not formerly pensioned as the widow of said soldier (or sailor), the number of her pension being ____ that her pension or right to pension terminated because of her marriage January 16, 1876, to Oliver C. Bennett at Sunbury, Pa., that he died February 5, 1900, near Jersey Shore, Pa.; that he did not serve in the Army, Navy, or Marine Corps of the United States. That she did not marry again after the death of the soldier (or sailor), except to Oliver C. Bennett, named above. That she hereby appoints Elbert A. Porter of Williamsport, Pa., her true and lawful attorney to prosecute this claim hereby, revoking any other appointments heretofore made. That she makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States, as a remarried widow, under the SECOND SECTION of the ACT OF CONGRESS, APPROVED SEPTEMBER 8, 1916. Court in and for said county and State, personally appeared Mary A. Bennett, claimant, whose post office address is No. 617 Lloyd St., Williamsport, Pa., who being duly sworn according to law doth depose and say: That she is unable to furnish proof of her age, as requested; that there is no public or church record of the same, of which she has any knowledge, and she does not know at present of the existence anywhere of the old family record showing same, although she has seen such a record, and can swear positively from her memory of same that as recorded therein, she was born October 20th, 1845, and will, therefore, be seventy-two years of age in a few days hence. That there were fifteen children in her family, two of whom died in infancy, and thirteen of whom lived to maturity and older. That she was born in Helm Township, York County, Pennsylvania, and was living there both in June 1850 and in June 1860, as she verily believes. That the names of her father and mother were George Wolfe and Eliza Wolfe, both of whome were living in said Township, County and State, in June 1850 and in June, 1860. That the names of her brothers and sisters (except the two who died in infancy) were: John Wolfe, Rebecca Wolfe, Samuel Wolfe, Sarah Wolfe, Jacob Wolfe, Elizabeth Wolfe, William Wolfe, Philip Wolfe, Amanda Wolfe, George Wolfe, Henry Wolfe and Zachariah Wolfe, making twelve, and she herself making thirteen; that all of the above named were living in June 1850 and in June 1860, in Helm Township, York Co., Pa., as she verily believes, unless Zachariah and possibly Henry might not have been born yet in 1850, though she believes they were. That the name of the Township was, as she believes, and as stated, Helm Township; that it was in York County, Pennsylvania, and that it was in the country about seven miles from York, Pa. /s/ Mary O.
