Hiram Palmer was pleasantly surprised on Monday night by about thirty of his friends from the Baptist church, the occasion being his eighty-eight birthday. A tureen supper was served at seven o’clock. The rest of the evening was taken up with music, stories and reminiscences. “Grandpa Palmer” as he is familiarly known, was congratulated many times upon his hale and hearty appearance, despite his 88 years, and wishes for many more birthdays were in order from everyone. Yesterday morning train No. 12 over the B.R.&P. railroad arriving in this city at 9:30 a.m., acquired a new passenger between Bingham and Bradford. The new passenger was very new indeed. In fact, his first railroad journey was also his first experience of any sort on this mundane sphere. For a son was born to Mrs. Nick Verrucco of Kushequa, a passenger, shortly before the train arrived in Bradford. The mother and child, accompanied by Mr. Verrucco, were taken to the Bradford hospital in Koch’s ambulance. Both Mrs. Verucco and the little boy were reported last night as doing well. – Bradford Era. August 26, 1920. Page 5.
