Laymon, of Port Allegany, will be solemnized the marriage of Beulah Marcia Laymon and Leon Sherman Green. Miss Laymon has been a valued member of the Mansfield Normal faculty, and is a talented musician whose appearances in concerts in Mansfield have won her deserved popularity. Mrs. Green is a former member of the Normal faculty and also has many friends in Mansfield who extend their congratulations. Mr. and Mrs. Green will be at home at 186 Whaley street, Freeport, Long Island, after January 10, 1916. – Mansfield Advertiser. Page 4. O’Brien – O’Connor This morning at St. Elizabeth’s church, occurred the marriage of Mr. Leo O’Connor and Miss May O’Brien, popular young people of this place, Rev. P.J. Donohue officiating. The ceremony was a quiet one, only a few friends and relatives being in attendance. The bride, who is a daughter of Mrs. Thos. O’Brien, of Bank street, is one of Smethport’s most charming and popular young ladies. For several years she has been connected with the local Bell telephone exchange, and in that capacity has become well known to the majority of Smethport residents and by her efficient discharge of the duties of that position and her pleasant and accommodating ways she has made firm friends on every hand. Mr. O’Connor, who is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick O’Connor, of East Smethport, is an expert railroad engineer and also a first class machinist. For several years he held a responsible position with the Grand Trunk lines in Canada, but during the past year he has been employed at the acetone factory in East Smethport. Johnson of Smethport, and Harry S. wolf, of Clayton, N.J. The ceremony was a quiet one, being witnessed by only the relatives of the high contracting parties. The bride, who is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Johnson, of Nelson street, is one of Smethport’s most attractive and accomplished young ladies. Since her residence in Smethport, during the years her father has been manager of the Berney-Bond bottle factory, this borough, she has endeared herself to a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. Mr. Wolf during the past three years has held a position as blower at the local bottle factory, and during his sojourn in Smethport has made many friends. Recently Mr. Wolf purchased a thriving business stand in buffalo and he and his bride have taken up their residence in that city. May 4, 1916. Page 1. Hallmertz – Hallstrom Last Thursday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Hallstrom occurred the marriage of their son, Fred Hallstrom, of Smethport and Miss Agnes Hallmertz, of Jamestown, former pastor of the local Swedish mission church, father of the Bride officiated at this happy ceremony. The wedding was witnessed by the relatives and a few friends of the contracting parties. The bride was attended by Miss Esther Hallstrom, sister of the groom, and Alfred Johnson, brother of the bride, acted as best man. The bride wore a beautiful gown of white willow taffeta, made entrain. She wore a veil caught up with orange blossoms and carried bridal roses. The bridesmaid was attired in a pink taffeta gown trimmed with gold lace and carried pink roses. Mendelsshon’s wedding march was played by Miss Judith ???? of Jamestown. The parlor of the Hallstrom home was tastefully decorated for the wedding, the contracting parties standing beneath a wedding bell suspended from the ceiling and in front of a ??? of flowers. Following the ceremony a wedding luncheon was served under the direction of Misses Bessie ??? and Alice Engstrom. The table was decorated with cut flowers. The happy couple left on the 10:15 train for a wedding trip to William sport and other places, and will be at home, later, in Bolivar, N.Y., at which place Mr. English is at present stationed by the tidewater company, by whom he is employed. O’Connor – McCarthy The Hattiesburg, Miss., Daily News in its issue Wednesday, June 21, 1916, contains the following account of the marriage of Fred C. McCarthy, son of L.T. McCarthy, of this borough, and a popular former Smethport boy, to a charming young Southern lady. An interesting feature of the day to a wide circle of friends, although a quiet affair, was the marriage of Miss Mary Tammany O’Connor, and Mr. Fred T. McCarthy, both of Epley. The ceremony took place in this city this morning at the Catholic church at the 10:30 mass. There were no attendants and the Rev. Father Enis, officiated at the single ring ceremony. The bride wore a lovely traveling suit of blue taffeta which was most becoming. Her hat was a small one of blue straw and taffeta trimmed in silver beaded flowers. She carried a beautiful shower bouquet of bride’s roses and lilies of the valley. After the ceremony Mr. McCarthy and his bride left for (unreadable) where they will spend a while. They will reside in Epley, where the groom is engaged with the Major-Sowels Lumber company of Epley. Miss O’Connor is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas O’Connor of New Orleans. For some time she has been making her home wither brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. John Carroll in Epley. She has often visited here as the guest in the house of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Carroll, Mr. and Mrs. Alex T. McCurdie and Mr. and Mrs. William J. Stemme, when she made a large number of friends in both the married and unmarried sets who wish her happiness in her new life. Among the out-of-town guests for the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. John Reynolds of New Orleans, and Mr. John Carroll, of Epley. Page 5. Richards and Miss Ellanorah E. Colegrove went quietly to Limestone, N.Y., and were married. Only the immediate relatives were aware of their intentions. The bride is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Colegrove of Smethport, Pa. She has for several years been an efficient teacher in Keating township, for the past year being the successful principal of the East Smethport school. Mr. Richards is the second son of Mr. and Mrs. George Richards of Marvin creek. He is at present a ____ at State college, in the agricultural course. Grapevine – Chadwick At the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Chadwick of West Main street on Wednesday, August 16th, 1916, occurred the marriage of Miss Juva Mae Chadwick and Mr. James ? Grapevine, of Youngstown, Ohio, Rev. J.H. Graybill, of the first Presbyterian church, St. Marys, Pa., officiating. The ring ceremony was used. (remainder is unreadable) August 31, 1916. Page 1. Mr. and Mrs. H.S. Rogers, of Mt. Jewett, have issued invitations for the wedding of their daughter, Miss Helen Rogers, to Mr. Howard Brownell, son of Postmaster F.W. Brownell, of Smethport, which will occur at the home of the bride’s parents, Wednesday evening, Sept. 6th. Miss Rogers for several years past has been a valued employe of the county recorder’s office in this Borough and Mr. Brownell is a well known young chemist who is employed in New York. September 7, 1916. Page 1. Last evening, Sept. 6, 1916, at 8:30 o’clock in the parlor of the home of Mr. and Mrs. H.S. Rogers, on High street, Mt. Jewett, occurred the marriage of their eldest daughter, Miss Helen Lucy Rogers, to Howard Fred Brownell of Smethport. The ceremony was performed by Rev. William Francis Shero, Ph. D., rector of Christ B.E. church Greensburg, Pa., uncle of the bride. The ring ceremony was used, the bride being given away by her father. Sixty invited guests were present. The bridal party entered the parlor to the strains of Lohengrin’s Bridal Chorus, by Miss Helen Thompson, of Mt. Jewett, at the piano. Preceding the bridal party little Louise Redfield and Master Homer Choate of Smethport, carrying ribbons, thus forming an aisle, through which the bride and her attendants marched to the altar. (Article is lengthy and only portions are included here) The bride’s maid of honor was her sister, Miss Jeanette Louise Rogers. The groom was attended by his brother, William Brownell, of Smethport. Following the ceremony a bridal luncheon was served, during the course of which Miss Irma Wells, of Smethport, sang “Love, Here is My Heart” and “The Sunshine of Your Smile.” The bride of this happy alliance during the past four years has made her residence in Smethport, being a member of the household of her grandfather, County Recorder B.M. Choate. Mr. Brownell, who is a son of Postmaster F.W. Brownell, of Smethport, is a graduate of Allegheny college, and is a rising young chemist, having been engaged for some time past as an instructor of chemistry in New York city. Mr. and Mrs. Brownell will take up their residence in Smethport, following a wedding tour. Page 1. Stewart – Quinn At St. Bernard’s church, Bradford, at 9 o’clock a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 1916, Miss Mary Gertrude Stewart, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J.B. Stewart, of Bradford, and Martin M. Quinn, of Olean, were united in marriage. After the Rev. David F. Hickey, of St. Bernard’s had pronounced the words which united the couple, the solemn nuptial mass was solemnized by the Rev. Mr. Hickey, assisted by the Rev. Edward Rengle, of Olean, the Rev. Joseph Kinney of Bradford, and the Rev. Mr. Dolan, president of Villa Nova college, of Philadelphia. The marriage ritual was performed in the presence of a large concourse of friends and relatives and was a most beautiful ceremony. The bride, who is a member of Bradford’s younger social set, is a graduate of Madison hall, Washington, D.C., and is a handsome and accomplished young woman. Mr. Quinn, who is a graduate of Villa Nova college, Philadelphia, is prominently identified with the extensive wood distillation business of his father, M.F. Quinn, one of the foremost chemical manufacturers of the country, has, in supervising the company’s plants in East Smethport, Crosby and Keystone, spent much time in Smethport, where he has made a most favorable impression. Following the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Quinn left on a wedding tour which will include points of interest in the Adirondack mountains and New York and after Oct. 1st they will take up their permanent residence in Smethport, where carpenters and decorators have been finishing off beautiful apartments for them at the Grand Central Hotel. Donahue announced the forthcoming marriage of Elmer Quirk, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Quirk, and Miss Elenora O’Brien, daughter of Mr., and Mrs. Michael O’Brien, which event will occur in the near future. On Wednesday evening the employes of the Boys’ Magazine of which Miss O’Brien has been a valued employe for some time past, tendered the bride-elect a delightful shower at the Wright house. Wallace – Holcomb Wednesday evening, Sept. 6, 1916, at 6:30 o’clock, a very pretty wedding took place at the Wallace residence, when John Holcomb and Miss Gertrud Wallace were united in marriage. Maynard butler acted as best man and Miss Schnell was the bridesmaid. Rev. W.A. Stackhouse of the Methodist church officiated. After the ceremony a wedding supper was served, at which there were sixteen present. The out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. S.B. Holcomb of Smethport, Miss Schnell of Paterson, H.J., and Joe Smith of emporium. Both bride and groom are among Port Allegany’s most popular young people, and the best wishes of the entire community go with thee. Gahagan – Mason Promptly at 2:30 Wednesday morning, September 6, 1916, the marriage of Miss Ruth Genevra Gahagan to Mr. Grant Samuel mason was solemnized at the bride’s home, Anderson street, Mt. Jewett, Pa. The exact date of the ceremony had been kept exceedingly quiet and only the immediate relatives of the contracting parties were present. The desire of the young people to get married and get safely away on their wedding trip unmolested by their numerous young friends, the bride’s companions in having fun with many former newly-weds, seems to have been successfully carried out. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. C.C. Mohney of Hazelhurst. A delicious wedding breakfast followed and the happy couple departed on the early morning flyer for Buffalo and other northern points to spend a short honeymoon. September 21, 1916, Page 1. At St. Elizabeth’s church at 7 o’clock Wednesday morning, Rev. P.J. Donahue, of St. Elizabeth’s church, pronounced the words that untied in marriage Elenora Genevieve O’Brien, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael O’Brian, and Arthur Elmer Quirk, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Quirk, two of Smethport’s popular young people. The ceremony was witnessed by the immediate families of the high contracting parties and by a large concourse of friends and relatives. The bride was attired in a handsome traveling suit of blue, trimmed with fur, with hat to match. She was attended by her sister, Miss Marie O’Brien. Francis Quirk, brother of the groom acted as best man. Following the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Michael O’Brien of East Main street, for the principals and the immediate families, after which Mr. and Mrs. Quirk departed for an automobile tour. The bride of this alliance is one of Smethport’s fairest daughters and is very popular with the younger social set, for some time past she has been a valued employe of the Boy’s Magazine ____? Mr. Quirk is clerk at the Smethport postoffice, and is a member of the firm of Quirk & Sons, proprietor of the M___ street garage. He is a fine young man in every sense of the word. On returning from their bridal trip, Mr. and Mrs. Quirk will take up their residence in the Purtle house at the corner of Franklin and Green streets, which they have leased. September 28, 1916. Page 1. Milroy – Pierson Yesterday morning at 11 o’clock at Ridgway occurred the marriage of Miss Pauline Pierson, of Wilcox, and Fred Milroy, of Smethport. The bride is a charming young lady, who for a number of years had made her residence in Smethport and is deservedly popular here. The groom is a valued employe of the Colegrove grocery, and is chief of the Smethport Fire department. He is a fine young man in every sense of the word. Her flowers were pink rose buds. After the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served at the home of the bride. The tables and house were beautifully decorated with roses and chrysanthemums. Mr. and Mrs. Schriever left on the afternoon B.R.&P. flyer for Syracuse, Buffalo and other points, where their honeymoon will be spent. They will be at home after December 1 at Halsey, where the groom holds a responsible position with the United Natural Gas company. Oviatt, of Smethport, which happy event occurred at Frairie Farm, Wis., Thursday, Dec. 7, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Arthur O. Blotcher of that place. The announcement of this event came as a complete and happy surprise to the hosts of friends of this popular gentleman in Smethport. Mr. Oviatt is a well known contractor and oil and gas producer of this borough and is a substantial gentleman who numbers his friends by the legion. The bride is highly spoken of as a charming lady, who is extremely popular in her western home.
