Married on Tuesday, March 26, eighteen hundred and seventy-two, Farmers Valley, Pennsylvania. On Saturday, March 25, Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Cory celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at their home in Coryville, Pa. At an afternoon reception about fifty guests offered congratulations and good wishes. Many out-of-town friends sent cards and flowers. The house was decorated with a profusion of golden daffodils. Six of the guests who were present at the wedding 50 years ago gave toasts and recalled incidents of that time. Music and old time songs added to the pleasure of the occasion. Practically all of Mr. and Mrs. Cory’s married life has been spent in McKean county. They have five daughters, twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild. It is a remarkable fact that in all of the 50 years there has been but one death in the family that of the oldest son, occurring many years ago. Both Mr. and Mrs. Cory are of pioneer stock and have been closely identified with the history of the county. Mrs. Cory’s grandfather was Judge Jos. Otto who was one of the earliest settlers, coming to Farmers Valley in 1809. He was judge of the county for 16 years before Potter and McKean were divided. Mr. Cory’s grandfather, Eli Rees was also a pioneer of Potter, although Mr. Cory himself was born in Smethport at which time his father, Azro B., was editor of a newspaper which was a forerunner of the present McKean County Democrat. For years Mr. B.F. Cory provided work for more men than anyone else in this section of the country. He had a general store at Eldred and later one at Coryville. He has owned three different sawmills and a grist mill, built 6 miles of log railroad and cut many millions of feet of lumber. He has done his part toward developing the oil industry also. The farm which he now owns was bought by him with the virgin timber standing upon it. He cut the logs, peeled the bark and sawed the timber on the 125 acres of it which is now improved land. Both Mr. and Mrs. Cory have many friends who unite in wishing them many more happy anniversaries. Page 3.
