One of the most pleasant and happy occasions that the people of this vicinity have witnessed for years, and one that seldom occurs, was the celebration of the golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Judge Sartwell of this place on Monday afternoon and evening of last week, Jan. 1, 1872. Fifty years of married life have flown over their heads and it was fit that the venerable couple should again renew the pledges given so many years ago in the morning of their life and again receive the congratulations of their wide circle of friends. (Article continues at length) Page 1. Wolters-Canfield. Mr. Leon Wolters and Mrs. Harriet Canfield both of Manistee, Mich., were married Thursday last in Georgia. Herrick of Shingle House. The ceremony was performed in the presence of a few near relatives by the Rev. T.C. Bell, pastor of the Shingle House M.E. church. After the ceremony a dainty wedding supper was served with musical accompaniment from a string and tin pan orchestra, composed of a host of our friends, whom we tried to fool but didn’t . They certainly had the best horse fiddle we ever heard. There was only one way to answer their call and that was to make our appearance. Well we went out to greet our friends, and when we escaped we felt as though we had gone through an initiatory degree in some lodge. We are now at home to our friends in Shingle House. – Oswayo Valley Mail. Mar 3, 1904: Page 1. Ancient History. Married at the residence of the bride’s father, C.H. Cornforth, Mr. H.V. Redfield, of Jasper, Tennessee, and Miss Nettie Hamlin eldest daughter of Hon. B.D. Hamlin. Never were nuptials more handsomely celebrated and never were truer hearts united in marriage bonds. It was not merely the consummation of romance – a fulfillment of heartless pledges as marriages lately are apt to be, but a union of hearts and hands, of hopes and fears and of all that makes life noble and marriage lovely. At 10 o’clock a.m. the groom and bride entered the parlor to perform the accustomed rites. The family of the bride and the relatives of the groom who were in attendance stood up with the pari in recognition of their marriage, and immediately a perfect silence fell upon the throng of guests as the ceremonies began. Tenderly and earnestly the marriage vows were spoken and victor and Nettie were made one. (Article continues with description of gifts) May 5, 1904: Page 1. Married at Limestone.
