Burdick-McCammon. Mr. Lynn Burdick and Miss Orra McCammon both of this place were united in marriage at Olean on Thursday, July 18, 1907. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. McCammon and is popular among a host of friends in this place. Bond - Hafner. – At the residence of E.R. Crandall, in Little Genesee, N.Y., on the evening of Nov. 25, 1886, by Rev. Geo. W. Burdick, Mr. A.J. Bond of Smethport, Pa., and Miss Christina Hafner of Clermont, Pa. Aug 8, 1907: Page 1. A very pleasant church wedding took place at the Swedish Lutheran church, Thursday evening, August 1, 1907, at eight o’clock. The contracting parties were Miss Lena Johnson and Mr. Alfred Johnson, both well known and popular young people of Smethport. The church was beautifully decorated with palms, carnations and smilax. The ceremony was performed by Rev. P.E. Nordgren of Bradford. The bride was attended by Miss Vera Johnson sister of the bride, and Miss Amanda Anderson. Mr. Wm. Johnson and Mr. Edward Anderson were the groom’s attendants. The bride was gowned in embroidered net over white silk, and carried white roses. Her attendants wore pink gowns and carried pink roses. A reception followed at the home of the bride’s parents on East Main street, where an elegant lunch was served. The table decorations were smilax and carnations. The presents were beautiful and numerous. A vast number of friends were present to wish the happy couple God speed on their journey through life. Aug 15, 1907: Page 1. Ancient History. Granteer-Heil – At the residence of Mr. George Bayer, orwich, by G.m. Smith, Esq., Mr. F.B. Granteer of Norwich, Pa., to Miss Susan Heil of Baltimore, Md. Aug 29, 1907: Page 1. Cain-Murphy Nuptials. Mr. Oscar H. Cain of this place and Miss Mary Julia, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward D. Murphy of Canaseraga(?), N.Y. were united in marriage at St. Mary’s church in Canaseraga at 8 o’clock Sunday morning, August 26, 1907, by Rev. John Ryan in the presence of the near relatives and a few close friends of the bride and groom. Immediately after the ceremony the bridal party repaired to the home of the bride where the nuptial breakfast was served. Mr. and Mr. Cain departed that day for a honeymoon trip of a few days, including Buffalo, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington. The bride is a popular young lady of Canaseraga, and has visited friends in this place, where she made many friends. Mr. Cain is the popular station agent of the P.S.&N.R.R. at this place and in the year that he has held this position he has made a host of friends who wish them a long life of happiness. They will return to Smethport where they will make their home. Temporarily they will reside at the Wright House. Sep 12, 1907: Page 3. John A. Swanson and Miss Mary Johnson of Crosby, were united in marriage at the Lutheran parsonage in Mt. Jewett Saturday afternoon, August 31st, Rev. G.S. Olson, pastor of the Lutheran church officiating. – Mt. Jewett Herald. Invitations have been issued to the marriage of Miss Georgia Ross Wade, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George L. Wade of Cambridge Springs, to Jay North of this city. The ceremony will take place on September 18 at 3 o’clock. – Bradford Star. Sep 19, 1907: Page 1. Ancient History. Baker-Adams, - At Canaden, N.Y., Wednesday, March 2, 1887, by Rev. A.S. Kaneland, Frank S. Baker, of Smethport, Pa., and Emma E. Adams, of Canaden, N.Y. Married, on Wednesday, Sept 18, at noon at the residence of Mrs. Washburne, Coryville, by the Rev. J.H. McCandless, Miss Emma Price to Mr. Elmer H. Kennedy both of Pittsburg, Pa. A large company attended the wedding. Elegant refreshments were served. Many hearty congratulations were given the happy couple by the large party of their sincere friends present. Oct 3, 1907: Page 1. In Rixford on Wednesday, at noon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Shippey, occurred a very interesting and romantic marriage. The groom, Mr. Alonzo F. Brown of San Francisco, is a very handsome man, six feet, two inches in height and sixty-five years of age. The bride, Mrs. Sarah Shippey of Rixford, is three years his junior. They were engaged to be married in 18?4 but separated and have never met since until a few weeks ago. Mr. Brown never married but remained true to the memory of his first love always keeping track of her whereabouts. The lady has been a widow for seven or eight years. The ceremony which made these two man and wife, after a postponement of forty three years, was performed by Rev. McCallum of the United Brethren church of Bradford and the details of the delightful, though quiet wedding, was supplied by the son of Mrs. Shippey and his wife. About forty guests were present. The house was appropriately decorated in autumn leaves, astors and other cut flowers. The bride’s table was in pink and white with candelabra and a bride’s cake cut by her own hands and distributed among the guests. The young people present sang, “Don’t you think its time to marry ma?” and other love songs, and the couple were serenaded by the Rixford band. There were many beautiful gifts. Mrs. Brown has long been held in the highest regard and affection by her many friends, who will miss her gentle and kindly presence when she goes with her husband to San Francisco where he has many interests. She was formerly Miss Sarah Parmentee. Mr. and Mrs. Brown were brought up as playmates and neighbors in the vicinity of Binghamton, N.Y. Mr. Brown has traveled all over the world and amassed a fortune being interested in plantations in Florida, mines in Oregon and real estate in California. Page 1. Eldred Marriages. At the Catholic church Monday, Father Mackin united in marriage Daniel Burnard and Miss Nellie McGill of Eldred. Both of them have many friends here, but Daniel who has gained renown as an official umpire at baseball (unreadable section) Page 3. Married, at St. Gabriel’s church, Wednesday morning, by Father Downey of Emporium, Mr. Harvey Fulton and Miss Cornelia Wiepper, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N.C. Weipper of Port Allegany. Neither of these people need any introduction by the Reporter, the groom residing here for the past half-dozen years, a well known, respected glassworker. The bride has lived here all her life and has a large circle of friends. – Port Allegany Reporter. Oct 17, 1907: Page 1. A Golden Wedding. On Tuesday evening October 15th, Hon. and Mrs. Henry Hamlin entertained a large company of friends and neighbors, the occasion being the fiftieth anniversary of the marriage of their brother and sister, Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Hamlin. The house was beautifully decorated for the occasion and the host and hostess spared no pains in making the occasion a thoroughly enjoyable one. Mr. and Mrs. Hamlin were married on Oct. 15th, 1857, in the Baptist place of worship, which was then situated on Main street on the present site of J.C. Hamlin’s store, by the Rev. S.D. Morris. The groom is the second son of the late Orlo J. Hamlin, Esq., and the bride, Charlotte M., the third daughter of Dr. W.Y. McCoy of blessed memory. Little did the dauntless young hearts realize how much would result from the labors began 50 years ago in their quiet, unostentatious home. Day after day, year after year, the work went on-the character building that strengthened not only their own lives, the lives of their children and those nearest them, but spread to their neighbors until the whole community felt its benign influence. They were among the families who united with the Episcopal church, whose first service in Smethport was held in 1849. (article continues) Oct 24, 1907: Page 1. At St. Sabina’s church, Clermont, Pa., Thursday morning, Oct 18, 1907, at 8 o’clock, Miss Genevieve, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Birmingham, was united in marriage to Mr. John Francis Fahy. Rev. Father Doyle performed the ceremony. After the ceremony the happy couple and guests repaired to the home of the bride’s parents, where an excellent repast was served. Miss Helen Maloney of Bradford, a cousin of the bride’s was maid of honor. Mr. John Francis Keating, Jr., acted as best man. Amid showers of rice and congratulations the bride and groom departed on the 3:35 P.R.R. train for Buffalo and intermediate points. The happy couple are two of Clermont’s most popular young people. Miss Birmingham is an accomplished young lady and a favorite among her young friends. The groom is one of Clermont’ most energetic young men and is employed by the Clermont Sewer Pipe Co., where he holds a very competent position. Mr. and Mrs. Fahy were the recipients of many beautiful and useful presents. Mr. and Mrs. Fahy will reside in Clermont. Page 3. Charles A. Herrick, editor and proprietor of the Oswayo Valley Mail, and Miss Nora Johnson of Shinglehouse were united in marriage at the Presbyterian parsonage in Hornell at noon on Thursday, October 10. Rev. E.M., Deems, pastor of the church, pronounced the ceremony. On Sunday morning at the parsonage of the M.E. church, Olean, Rev. Hugh O. Boyd united in marriage Miss Margaret P. Weaver and Clyde J. McKeen and Miss Catherine M. Wilkins and Charles F. Weaver, all of Knapps Creek. Invitations have been issued for the marriage of Miss Georgia Diantha Crosby, daughter of Mrs. E.M. Cheeseman of Smethport, and Mr. Tom Frederick Williams of Pittsburg, which will occur at the M.E. church Thursday evening Nov. 7, at 7:30 o’clock Oct 31, 1907: Page 1. Ancient History. Prof. McGowan, principal of our graded school, and Miss May Lewis, one of the teachers in the same, were married at Fredonia, N.Y. last week. The MINER unites with many friends of the happy couple in this place in extending congratulations. July 1887. Mr. and Mrs. William Evans announce the coming marriage of their daughter Ethel Maude, to Baker S. Stull of Denver, Colo., the happy event to occur Saturday, Nov. 16, 1907. Nov 7, 1907: Mr. and Mrs. DeWitt Clinton Young have issued invitations for the marriage of their daughter, Lois Fuller, to Edward Allan Studholme of Folsom, W.Va., which will occur at St. Luke’s church Tuesday evening, Nov 26 at 7 o’clock. Miss Young is one of Smethport’s most attractive and accomplished young ladies and Mr. Studholme is a popular young man, who was a resident of Smethport for a number of years. Nov 14, 1907: Page 1. On Thursday evening November 7th, the marriage of Miss Georgia Diantha Crosby of Smethport and Mr. Tom Frederick Williams of Butler, Pa., was solemnized in the Methodist Episcopal church of this place. The church was handsomely decorated with pink and white chrysanthemums, palms and branches of evergreens. It was well filled with guests, both from this vicinity and from a distance. The users were Paul Stone of Corry and J.C. Fisher of Butler. Miss Bradley organist of St. Luke’s church presided at the organ, and before the ceremony rendered an accompaniment of _ _ _ Burch’s solo, _ _ _ You Come, by Allestine. Both the solo and the accompaniment were beautifully rendered. At seven thirty o’clock the groom, accompanied, by J.D. Cutler of Greenville, Pa., who filled the position of best man, took their places near the altar where they awaited the bride and her attendants. To the strains of the wedding march from Lohengrin, the bridal party entered the church, first the bridesmaids, Miss Zoe Williams, sister of the groom, of Corry, Pa., and Miss Rhoda Ross of New York City, each gowned in white net made over white taffeta silk, and wearing white picture hats trimmed with pink, roses and white p_ _ _ and carrying large bouquets of pink roses. Next came the maid of honor, Miss Genevieve Crosby, sister of the bride, in pink silk mull, with a p_ _ _ hat mushroom style and carrying white chrysanthemums. And finally the bride, leaning on the arm of her father, E.M. Cheeseman of Smethport. The bride wore a dainty gown of white chiffon, (unreadable) Her hat was also white, trimmed in p_ _ _ and she carried white sweet _ _ _ and roses. The couple advanced to the altar where they were met by rev. W.A. Harris, the pastor, who spoke the words which united them for the beautiful ring service being used. After the bridal party left the church the pink and white taffeta ribbons were removed from the pews and to the inspiring strains of the wedding chorus from Lohengin the guests went out into the night. A large number went to the Cheeseman residence where a reception for Mr. and Mrs. Williams was held, after which an elaborate luncheon was served and Mr. Burch sang several songs in his delightful manner. The happy couple received a great many beautiful gifts from their many friends and relatives. When the time came for their departed they were showered with rice and confetti and with difficulty escaped. The wedding trip will include Buffalo, Toronto and other points after which they will be at home in Butler, Pa. (Article continues with list of out of town guests) Page 3. Miss Miriam Gertrude Davis and Joseph Townsend Wilson of Camden, N.J., were recently married at Belmar, M.J. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Wilson, and was born in Smethport, where his parents resided for a number of years. Many friends of the family in town unite with the MINER in extending hearty congratulations. Page 3. Charles Townsend and Miss Fern Fessenden of Roulette were recently married in Olean by the Rev. Mr. Lichlester of the first M.E. church. The groom is a popular young glass worker, who formerly lived in Smethport. The engagement of Miss Eleanor Partridge of this city and Mr. Herbert Brown of New York, was announced on Tuesday at a reception given in honor of the bride elect by the members of the Bradford Nurses association, at the home of Mrs. W.L. Wells on Jackson avenue. Bradford Record. Miss Partridge has many friends in Smethport who will be pleased to hear of this happy announcement. Nov 21, 1907: Page 3. Miss Esther Frost of Smethport and Mr. Leon Valentine of Port Allegany were married in Olean Saturday last by the Rev. Mc Licklester of the First M.E. church. The bride is a popular young lady well known to patrons of the Bell telephone as she was formerly a skillful and accommodating hello girl. The groom is also very popular with his friends and the MINER joins with everyone in wishing Mr. and Mrs. Valentine their full share of happiness. Dec 5, 1907: Page 1. Ancient History. Gallup-Brennan. – At the residence of the bride’s parents in this borough on Tuesday, Sept. 30th, 1887, by Rev. W. Bradley, Mr. Murton J. Gallup of Mt. Jewett and Miss Alma J. Brennan of Smethport. Dec 5, 1907: Page 1. The marriage of Miss Eleanor Allee Partridge, daughter, of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Partridge, of 946 South avenue to Mr. M. Edwin Brown of Ossining N.Y. was solemnized Thursday afternoon at 4 o’clock at the church of the Ascension. Rev. A.R. Kieffer performed the ceremony in the presence of relatives and a few intimate friends. The bride was becomingly attired in a beautiful gown of white radium silk and was attended by her cousin, Miss Florence _ _ _ _ of Buffalo, who wore a gown of light blue silk. Ralph Partridge brother of the bride acted as best man. Master Davis Partridge a nephew of the bride was ring bearer. The bride’s ornament was a beautiful diamond brooch the gift of the bridegroom. The bride was the recipient of numerous gifts of silver and cut glass. After a wedding tour to points in New England States, Mr. and Mrs. Brown will be at home to their friends after February 1st at No. 19, South Malcolm street, Ossining, N.Y. – Bradford Record. Page 3. Kerns and Miss Mary Louise Mason, daughter of L.W. Mason, Esq., were united in marriage at the residence of her father in this borough, on Wednesday evening, Nov. 2, 1887, at 8:30 o’clock by the Rev. Bradford Era: Announcement is made of the marriage in Olean of Miss Nellie Flickenger and Mr. Worth Reed, both of this city, the ceremony having been performed on December 1, by the Rev. Miss Mable Reynolds of Yaberstown, Pa., and Dr. Edwin S. Briggs of Hazelhurst were married in Olean on November 25th. Dr. and Mrs. Briggs will reside in Hazelhurst and havethe best wishes of many friends in this vicinity for a happy married life. Announcements have been received here of the marriage of Flora Estella, daughter of Mrs. J.N. Ewing, to Myron L. Youmans. The marriage occurred on Thursday, Nov. 28, 1907, at Boulder, Colorado. Mr. Youmans was formerly a Knoxville boy and later lived at Westfield. Mr. and Mrs. Youmans will be at home at Epic, Colorado, after Dec. 10th. Wellsboro Advocate Mr. Youmans is well known in Smethport where he resided at one time. Dec 26, 1907: Page 1. Mr. and Mrs. E.F. Richmond, well known and highly respected residents, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at their home, corner of green and Franklin streets, next Saturday, Dec. 28. They will be at home to their many friends from 2 until 5 o’clock in the afternoon. The Travelers club, of which Mrs. Richmond is a member, will visit them.
