Riggail, the Rev. G.A. Bond, Pastor of the M.E. church, conducting the ceremony. About 30 relatives and friends of the young couple were in attendance. The bride and bridegroom were unattended. Miss Edith Zimmerman of Syracuse University played the wedding march. The bride held the position of bookkeeper for Root & Wertman, and was for a time a compositor in the Bolivar Breeze office. She is a highly accomplished young lady well known in Smethport, where she made many friends several years ago during a long visit with relatives. The groom is a former Smethport boy, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Yerdon now of Jamestown, N.Y., and is employed as clerk in a hardware store in Buffalo. Many Smethport friends unite with the MINER in extending hearty congratulations and best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Yerdon. Burdick-Bennett. At Olean, Tuesday afternoon, occurred the marriage of Miss Ida M. Bennett and Mr. Anson S. Burdick, both of Smethport. The happy event was a complete surprise to their many friends, but nevertheless a happy one, and Mr. and Mrs. Burdick have been kept busy since Tuesday night receiving hearty congratulations and well wishes. The bride is one of Smethport’s most popular ladies and the groom a well known and esteemed business man; senior member of the firm of Burdick & Sartwell, plumbers. They will continue to make Smethport their home and the sincere wish of all is that they may have a long, happy and prosperous married life. Marks-Dickinson. Married, at the parsonage of the First Baptist church, Olean Thursday afternoon, Dec. 20, 1907, by the Rev. C.W. Bacheldor, Mr. Harry Marks of Bridgton, N.J., and Miss Carrie Dickinson of Smethport. The bride is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Dickinson of Bank street, and is one of Smethport’s most popular young ladies whose never failing cheerfulness has won for him the warm regard of a large number of friends and acquaintances. The groom is a window glass outer, well and very favorable known in this place where he was at one time employed. It is understood that at present he holds a position in Jeanette, Pa. The happy young couple were accompanied to Olean by Miss Elsie Sherer and Thursday night the party returned to Smethport. On Monday Mr. and Mrs. Marks departed on a honeymoon journey which will include visits to Pittsburg, Philadelphia, Camden, Atlantic City and Bridgton. It is the sincere wish of a host of friends that the married life of these worthy young people may be one of unalloyed happiness. Abbey-Masterson On Sunday last Mr. Earl Abbey of Smethport and Miss Mary Masterson of Sartwell were married by Justice G.T. Chase of East Smethport. Mr. and Mrs. Abbey will reside in Smethport after their return from a honeymoon trip. These young people are very popular among their many friends. Smith-Wert Miss Viva Wert of Smethport and Mr. Elisha Smith of East Smethport were married recently in Olean. They are popular young people and are receiving congratulations from many friends. Page 3. Married at Hazelhurst, Dec. 25, 1907, Miss Daisy Holcomb to Mr. Percy Van Sickles. This popular young couple have many friends in Smethport and vicinity who will join with the MINER in extending best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Van Sickles for a happy and prosperous married life. Page 5. Tuesday morning at 10:30 o’clock at Trinity church, Delaware avenue, Buffalo, occurred the marriage of E. Wallace Mullin of this city to Miss Grace Key of that city, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Cameron Davis. The bridal couple was unattended. The guests were limited to only the members of the families of the contracting parties, those from Bradford being Mrs. E. Mullin, mother of the groom, and John Mullin, Esq., a brother of the groom. The newly wedded pair departed after the ceremony for a wedding trip which will include points in the West. They will reside in Bradford. Jan 16, 1908: Page 3. Fay Stryker, aged 21, and Miss Maud Vaughan, aged 17, of Keating Summit, eloped from their homes during Christmas week, and were married. Once before they tried to outwit their vigilant parents and failed. – Potter Enterprise. Jan 23, 1908: Ancient History. The marriage is announced of Mr. Roland Beck of Simpson, this county, and Miss Tillie Bangert of Dubois. The happy event occurred at the latter place on Feb. 21, 1888. The accomplished bride was at one time a resident of this county where she is well known. The MINER tenders its congratulations. Ancient History. It is with pleasure that we extend our congratulations to our old friend J.H. Williams, of Port Allegany, whose marriage is announced to Miss Jessie Henderson, of the same place. The marriage was celebrated on Tuesday, March 6, 1888. Ancient History: Laurie-Barnes. – At the residence of G.O. Garlick at Kasson, Pa., on Thursday, March 8, 1888, by Rev. T.W. Chandler, assisted by Rev. J.G. Hawkins, William Laurie and Miss Myra G. Barnes, both of Hamlin township. Page 5. Invitations will soon be issued for the marriage of Miss Mildred Mae Rice, neice of Mr. and Mrs. F.C. Crandall, to Harry Allen Stickel; which will occur at Larabee, February 12, 1908, at high noon. Page 5. Married at Register John B. Eastman’s office in the court house last night, by Justice B.L. Knapp, Mr. Frank E. Humphrey of Attica, N.Y., and Miss Caroline L. Torrey of Warsaw, N.Y. Feb 6, 1908: Ancient History. Mr. Byron W. Badger and Miss Nellie O. Hamlin, both of this borough, were married at Olean on Tuesday May 8, 1888, by Rev. Dox. Ancient History. On Wednesday evening, May 16, 1888, Mr. and Mrs. F.J. Vickery celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary. The presents were numerous and many of them of great value to housekeepers. (a list of attendees follows in the article) Mar 5, 1908: Eldred Eagle: At St. Joseph’s cathedral in Buffalo, Wednesday, Rev. Father Harrigan united in marriage Miss Lillian Brooder of Sartwell, and Mr. Patrick J. Sweeney of Eldred. The bride is well known in Eldred, having been head trimmer at Mrs. Koenig’s millinery store that past season, and has a large circle of friends here. Mr. Sweeney is successfully engaged in the mercantile business here, and is one of the popular young men of the town. If the best wishes of friends count for anything, their future happiness is well assured. Mar 19, 1908: Ancient History: Dye-Curtis – At Smith’s Mills, N.Y., on Tuesday, August 14, 1888, by Rev. S.L. Mead, Wilfred Dye of Smith’s Mills, and Miss Millie A. Curtis of Smethport, Pa. Page 3: Announcement is made of the coming marriage of Miss Pearl Violet Robins of Liberty township and Milford Leroy Nelson of Wrights, which will occur at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. John G. Robbins, Thursday evening, March 26th. Page 5: Mr. Milo Oviatt and Miss Clara Ethel Patteson of Colegrove were married in Smethport, Wednesday, March 4, by the Rev. W.A. Harris. Mr. and Mrs. Oviatt passed their honeymoon in Buffalo visiting relatives and are now as home to their many friends in Colegrove. Mar 26, 1908: Loren Johnson of North Java, N.Y., and Mrs. Reuben Dennis of Eldred, were united in marriage by Rev. Adams, of the local M.E. church last Sunday night. – Eldred Eagle. Apr 9, 1908: Married, at the home of the bride’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Hall, at 8 o’clock last evening by the Rev. W.A. Harris, Miss Hattie Hall of Smethport and Mr. Alvin G. Cornelius of Andover, N.Y. The ceremony was performed in the presence of the relatives and a very few friends of the two families, and the bride was the recipient of many beautiful presents. The bride is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Hall and has passed most of her life in Smethport. She is a very popular and attractive young lady, who has the best wishes of the community for a long and happy married life. The groom is an industrious young farmer, who is very highly spoken of by all who know him. Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius departed this morning for Alfred, N.Y., where a reception will be held at the home of the groom’s parents. The happy young couple will make their future home at Andover, N.Y. Ancient History. Martin-Colson – At the residence of M.N. Allen, Esq., September 25, 1888, John Martin and Miss Anna G. Colson, both of East Smethport, Pa. Ancient History. On Monday afternoon, September 24, 1888, was celebrated the golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Asa H. Cory, at their beautiful residence in Coryville, where they have resided the best part of their married life. (Article continues at length) Ancient History: Tuthill-Colegrove – In this borough, at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Colegrove, September, 29, 1888, by Rev. T.W. Chandler, Mr. Asher E. Tuthill, and Miss Rosa Ellen Colegrove. Ancient History: Helsel-Ormsby – Charles D. Helsel to Emma A. Armsby at the residence of the bride’s father in Keating township, Pa., October 2, 1888, by G.M. Smith, J.P. Apr 30, 1908: Page 5. Edward R. Boyle and miss Elizabeth Dwyer, daughter of William Dwyer, a pioneer resident and business man of Oil city, were married at that place Tuesday. The ceremony was performed at St. Stephen’s church by Rev. James F. Fielding. The groom is a son of P.O. Boyle of the Oil city Derrick. Best wishes for a long and prosperous life together. May 21, 1908: Page 5. Miss Catherine Isabella, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emmet Gorton and Mr. Charles Augustus Kranking were united in marriage in the presence of quite a party of friends at St. Elizabeth’s church at 9 o’clock yesterday morning, Rev. J.F. Dugan performing the ceremony. The MINER and a host of friends wish them a long life of happiness. Jun 4, 1908: Page 3. Miss Catherine Cantwell of Sartwell and Mr. John Sullivan of Cany, Ill., were married at the Catholic church at Sartwell Wednesday, May 20, 1908, Rev. Father Donahue officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan will make their home in Chicago. Mrs. Sullivan is a sister of Mrs. Edward Hungerford and is well known in this place. Page 5. The engagement of Miss Anna Beckman and William O’Day, both of Bradford, had been announce. Jun 11, 1908: Page 5. Gilbert A. Palmatier and Hazel L. Carpenter of Coudersport were married by Rev. W.A. Harris on Wednesday morning. Jul 23, 1908: Page 5. Charles Gibbons of Salamanca and Miss Ollie Burgess of Coleville were united in marriage at the home of the bride’s sister, Mrs. George Elmore, at No. 11 Zoe street on Monday evening. Rev. J.H. Yaggy officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Gibbons will reside at East Salamanca, where the groom is employed by the B.R.&P. railroad company. Page 5. Miss Nellie E. Plunkett, aged 16 years, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Felix Plunkett of Eldred, and William C. Stone, aged 20 years, son of Mrs. Thos. J. Stone of the same place, was united in marriage by Rev. Hugh Boyd, pastor of the Ninth Street Methodist church of Olean, N.Y., Wednesday, July 13, 1908. The young people were accompanied by their parents. Aug 20, 1908: At the Methodist Episcopal parsonage, this borough, on Tuesday evening, August 18, Rev. W.A. Harris spoke the words which united in the holy bonds of matrimony, Jennie R. Warren, only daughter of Mrs. Marion I. Lewis of Eldred, Pa., and Mr. Franklin D. Mann of Buffalo, N.Y. The happy couple came to Smethport on the evening train, and immediately went before Register John B. Eastman where they procured a marriage license and were married as above stated a short time afterward. Mr. and Mrs. Mann will make their future home in Chicago. Aug 27, 1908: Powell-Biever Nuptial (unreadable section) this borough, Wednesday, August 24, at high noon, Rev. W.A. Harris pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church spoke the words which united for life Margaret A., the youngest daughter of Henry Biever and Alfred Powell, of Clarksburg, W.Va. The wedding was a quiet one only the members of the two families being present. The bride is a popular young lady who has always resided in this borough. She is a graduate of the Smethport High Schools being a member of the class of ’04. The groom is a well known young man who until a short time ago, has resided in Smethport for the past ten years or more, learning the glass making trade here. Both have a host of friends here who unite with the MINER in wishing them a long life of happiness. After the ceremony several of their friends paid them a call and assisted in making merry until they left for their honeymoon trip which will include Philadelphia, Atlantic City and other points. We understand they intend to make their future home at Clarksburg, where Mr. Powell is employed. Sep 24, 1908: Miss Alica I. Foster, only daughter of Frank R. Foster of this borough, and Mr. Harry M. Zutter of St. Marys, Pa., were united in marriage at Paterson, N.J. on Saturday, September 12, 1908, Rev. Dr. Lacey performing the ceremony. The bride is a popular young lady of this place and the groom is a telegraph operator at St. Marys who is spoken of as a young man of most excellent habits and character. The MINER unites with a host of friends in wishing them a long life of wedded bliss. Oct 22, 1908: Page 5. Robert Rayner Wolters, a former Smethport young man and Miss Margaret E. Vincent of M_ _ _ _ , Mich., were united in marriage in that city on Thursday, Oct. 15, 1908. Ray, as he is familiarly known by his many friends here, has been a resident of M _ _ _ for several years and the happy couple will reside in that city. The MINER and a host of friends wish them a long and blissful married life. Page 5. Miss Edna R., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stan C. Townsend, formerly of borough, and Mr. Thomas Cox, of Lancaster, Ohio, were united in marriage at the home of the bride’s parents in Lancaster, today, Thursday, Oct. 22, 1908, in the presence of a few of their nearest relatives and friends. After a brief honeymoon trip in the West they will make their home in Lancaster. The bride spent her girlhood days to Smethport and her kind, pleasant, lovable disposition made her a host of very dear friends here who wish her a long life of pure, analloyed happiness. The writer is well acquainted with the groom and knows him to be an able young man and one of the best of fellows. Oct 29, 1908: A most interesting and unusual event was the double wedding at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Vincent Wednesday evening, October 14, 1908, when their daughters, Margaret and Alice, were united in marriage to Raymond Wolters of this city and Harold Collins of Petoskey. The guests were received by Mr. and Mrs. Vincent, the bride’s parents, Mrs. McClure of Smethport, mother of Mr. Wolters and Mr. and Mrs. Collins of Plymouth, N.Y., parents of Mr. Collins. To the music of violin and piano the bridal party descended the stairs the ribbons being held by the maid and matron of honor, Miss Edith Vincent, and Mrs. Baldwin of Austin, sister of Mr. Wolters. The Rev. Mr. Stanley immediately followed, just preceding the grooms, and the two brides came together, looking very sweet in their bridal robes, (unreadable section) After the ceremony, luncheon was served and in the brides cakes the ring was found by Miss Lula forth, the dime by Miss Elsie Kitster, the stick by Miss Edna Hall and Miss Georgia Stilson received the thimble. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wolters left this morning for a short wedding trip after which they will go to Chicago for a weeks stay and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Collins left today for Grand Rapids and will go to Chicago later. The young couples are both most popular in Manistee, and have the best wishes of everyone for their happiness. Mr. and Mrs. Wolters will live in the beautiful new home built by Mr. and Mrs. Vincent, adjoining their own on Cedar street, and Mr. and Mrs. Collins will make their home in Petoskey. The out of town guests were; Leon Wolters of Chicago, Mrs. McClure of Smethort, Mrs. Baldwin of Austin, Mr. and Mrs. Stilson and Miss Stilson of Portland, N.Y., Mr. and Mrs. Collins of Plymouth, N.Y., and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Reynolds of Milwaukee, Wis. – Manistee Daily News. A happy union at high noon today occurred at the Wheeling Hill residence of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley C. Townsend, when Miss Edna Hamlin Townsend, only child of Mrs. Stanley Townsend, and Mr. Thomas Benton Cox, Jr., only son of Mr. T.B. Cox, Sr., accepted the marriage pledges. Rev. Augustine J. Smith, rector of St. John’s Episcopal church, performing the ceremony in the east parlor, where an improvised altar had been erected, beautiful with white candles in silver candelabra, quantities of dainty white blossoms, asparagus and smilax, while large palms on either side completed dthe artistic spot where the ceremony occurred. (Description of wedding continues at length) Nov 19, 1908: Page 5. Miss Mollie Warshafsky, formerly a well known and popular young lady of this place, and John A. Larkin of New York city were married at the latter place Wednesday, October 21, 1908. Mr. Larkin holds a responsible position in an electrical garage and they will make their home in New York. Nov 26, 1908: A very pretty and quiet wedding was solemnized this Wednesday morning, November 25th, 1908, at St. Elizabeth’s church, this borough, when Rev. J.F. Dugan, the pastor of this parish spoke the words that untied for life Mr. William Henry Gallup and Mrs. Theresa Heineiman-Oviatt. The ceremony was performed in the presence of only a few of the immediate relatives of the high contracting parties and this will no doubt be quite a surprise to many of their friends in Smethport and vicinity. The Nuptial mass was celebrated, followed immediately by the beautiful and impressive ring service of the Roman Catholic church. The bride was attired in a neat traveling suit and was attended by Mrs. James A. McKean. The groom wore a regulation business suit and Hon. James A. McKean acted as best man. The wedding was devoid off all ostentation, but was beautiful in its simplicity. The bride is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N.W. Heineiman of Colegrove, her father being a prominent lumberman and well known in business circles. She is a charming young woman who has hosts of friends who wish her a life of unalloyed happiness. The groom is one of our prominent young business men and has the general management of the large dry goods and house furnishing store of The L_ _ _ Company of this place. Personally Mr. Gallup is one of the most popular young men in town and his host of friends will unite with the MINER in extending congratulations and wishing them both a long life of wedded bliss. Dec 3, 1908: On Wednesday, December 2, 1908, at Coudersport, Rev. E.M. Snodgrass, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church of that place, united in marriage, at the parsonage, Mr. W. Ross Colegrove of this borough and Miss Lelia M. Palmatier of Mina, Pa. The bride was attended by Miss Caroline H. Klein. The happy young couple returned to Smethport last evening, where they will reside in the future. They have taken furnished rooms in the home of Oscar Engstrom for the present. Mrs. Colegrove is a niece of A.C. Palmatier of Coudersport and has many friends in Mina and Coudersport. Mr. Colegrove is the eldest son of A.W. Colegrove and is a popular young glass bottle blower who has many friends here and in Coudersport. A host of friends in this section will unite with the MINER in wishing them a long life of happiness and prosperity. Page 3. Miss Zelda Wooster and Mr. Earl J. Hyatt, both of Rew City, were united in marriage to this borough on Thanksgiving Day. The ceremony was performed by Justice Ralph C. Gleason in his office and the happy couple felt for a short wedding journey in the afternoon. Both are said to be popular young people who have many friends who will unite with the MINER in wishing them a long and happy married life. Dec 10, 1908: Page 3.
