Kimber-Tanner A very pretty wedding took place Saturday afternoon, June 27th at 5:00 o'clock in the parsonage of the Central Presbyterian Church of Buffalo, when Miss Marie Tanner, daughter of Mrs. August Tanner of Smethport, became the bride of Frank Kimber, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Kimber of Buffalo. The ceremony was performed by Rev. R.W. Bushman, pastor the church, in the presence of the near relatives of the contracting parties and a few intimate friends. Their attendants were Miss Gladys Tanner of Smethport, sister of the bride, and Kenneth Moses of Boston, an intimate friend of the groom. The bride was charming in a gown of imported sea green lace, with yellow picture hat and slippers to match. She wore a corsage of yellow tea roses and baby's breath. The bridesmaid was attractively attired in a gown of yellow net with green picture hat and slippers to match. She wore a corsage bouquet of pink tea roses and baby's breath. Following the ceremony, a dinner for twelve was served at the Hotel Touraine, following which the happy couple left on a motor trip through the New England states. They will be at home after July 13th at Hamburg, N.Y. The bride is a former popular Smethport girl, a graduate of Smethport High School of the Class of 1922 and of Bryant & Stratton's Business College in Buffalo. For the past three years she has held a clerical position in the office of the Merchants' Mutual Insurance Company of Buffalo. The groom is at the head of the Compensation department of the same company, and is a fine young man with a promising future. McKay-McCoy Nuptials Last Saturday Eve One of the most brilliant social events of the season was the marriage of Miss Mary Catherine McCoy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G.H. McCoy of Union Street to Alexander Horace McKay, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. McKay of Olean, which occurred Saturday evening, June 27th at 8:00 o'clock in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Rev. W.E. Van Dyke officiating. The bride was given in marriage by her father, G.H. McCoy, the ring ceremony of the Episcopal Church being used. The bride's attendants were Miss Margaret Macy of Montclair, N.J., Miss Mildred Breese of Montclair, Miss Sybil McKay of Olean, Mrs. John V. McAlpin and Miss Ada Studholme of Smethport. The best man was Richard Rickards of Bradford, and the ushers were Elmer Ottoson, Robert Bloomer, Harry Donovan and Gauin McCoy of Smethport. Mrs. W.E. Van Dyke, organist of St. Luke's Church, played the wedding music. For processional she played "Lohengrin" and Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" for recessional. A short organ recital preceded the ceremony. The service was performed before the altar which was decorated in pink and white peonies and ferns. The bride was exquisitely gowned in a white net dress and wore a real lace veil caught with orange blossoms. The maid of honor wore blue mousseline de sole and a blue picture hat with slippers to match. Two of the bridesmaids were attired in yellow mousseline de sole and yellow picture hats and two wore lavender mousseline de sole and matching picture hats and slippers. All carried large colonial bouquets. The bride's mother, Mrs. G.H. McCoy, wore a beautiful gown of French blue satin with a blue hat, and the groom's mother wore a lovely gown of beige lace with beige picture hat. A reception and buffet luncheon took place at the bride's home at the conclusion of the nuptial ceremony to 125 guests. Mrs. J.A. Lindholm and Mrs. Miller catered for the affair. The house decorations included a profusion of roses, laurel and other summer flowers. Mr. and Mrs. McKay will spend their honeymoon in New York, returning to Montclair, N.J., where they will reside. The bride is a charming and popular former Smethport girl and a graduate of Smethport High School, Mountainside Hospital and Columbia University. She has been identified with the Health Center in Newark, N.J. The groom is a graduate of Bradford High School and of Syracuse University. He has a find position as architect in the office of Horn & Klare, New York City. The out-of-town guests were; Rev. and Mrs. D.H. Dunbar, Warsaw; Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Pre-nuptial parties for the bride were given by Mrs. J.C. Backus, Miss Marion Newman, Miss Jean Hammer, Mrs. Edward Backus, Mrs. Morton R. Announce Engagement The engagement of Miss Catherine Aldrich Cleveland, daughter of Mrs. Frederick Cleveland of Erie, to John Forrest Mitchell, son of A.W. Mitchell of Erie, was recently announced. Mr. Mitchell is a grandson of Mrs. Mary Forrest of West Main Street and of Mrs. Stella Mitchell of West Main Street. He has often visited here and has a large circle of friends. Page 8. Moore-Dorr Miss Edith M. Dorr became the bride of Norton O. Moore, both of Olean, N.Y., on Tuesday evening, July 7, at 10:20 o'clock in the Baptist Church, Rev. J. E. Besant officiating. The young couple are very popular in Olean where they will reside. Mrs. Moore is an active worker in the Young People's Society at the First Baptist Church there. July 23, 1931 Page 1. Hector-Anderson The marriage of Miss Esther Anderson, niece of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Johnson of Water Street and Arthur Hector, son of Mr. and Mrs. Olaf Hector, took place at the Swedish Lutheran Parsonage at Port Allegany, Wednesday evening at 5 o'clock, Rev. G.S. Larson officiating. They were attended by Alma Hector sister of the groom and Hjalmer Johnson of Gifford, Pa. The bride was beautifully attired in white satin and wore a white hat and shoes and carried a bride's bouquet of roses and baby's breath. Miss Hector wore a lovely gown of orchid chiffon with hat to match and carried tea roses and baby's breath. The bride has made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Emil Johnson of Water Street and the groom is engaged in carpenter work. They are well known and popular young people. Scalfaro-Dibble Eldred July 4. - Miss Esther Dibble daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Dibble of Rixford and Francis Scalfaro also of Rexford were married last Thursday afternoon at the home of the bride's parent. The bride was attired in a white taffeta gown and carried blue delphinium and baby's breath. Miss Elsie Shippey of S. Petersburg Fla,, formerly of Rixford was the bride's attendant. She wore a gown of blue net and carried a bouquet of sweet peas and bridal daises. August 6, 1931 Page 1. Parker-Nordstrom The marriage of Miss Stella Nordstrom of Kane, and Carl Parker, son of Mr. and Mrs. M.S. Parker of Farmers Valley, occurred Sunday, July 26th at Conneaut, O., Rev. McKay, pastor of the Baptist Church officiating. The bride is a popular and charming Kane young lady. The groom is a fine industrious young man who was a graduate of Smethport High School of the class of 1926, and was very prominent in athletics. He was one of Smethport High School's greatest milers. He is at present employed by the Piper Oil Company of Bradford and plays in the Rocky Ridge orchestra. They will make their home in Kane. MacDougald united in marriage Charles L. Reidenouer and Miss Ella Margaret Finlon, both of Niagara Falls, N.Y. Each one of these young people was a former resident of the state of Pennsylvania and wanted to come back here to be married. Rev. Mr. MacDougald happened to be the fortunate minister they ran across. September 3, 1931 Page 1. Orloff-Freeman Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Freeman announce the marriage of their daughter Edna Cynthia Freeman of New York City to Constantine Orloff also of the city, on October 23, 1930 at Scarsdale, N.Y. Kohler daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Kohler of Buffalo and Robert Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.P. Johnson of this place took place at the bride's home, 123 Masten Street Buffalo, Rev. Father D.D. of the German Lutheran Church officiating. Their attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Johnson of Bradford. The bride was beautifully attired in white satin and lace and carried a bouquet of white roses and baby's breath. The bridesmaid Mrs. Albert Johnson of Bradford sister of the bride wore a lovely gown of pale green net and carried pink roses. The mother of the bride was attired in orchid crepe de chine and the mother of the groom wore printed chiffon, both wore corsages of roses. The home was tastefully decorated with pink and white gladiolas and palms. Lohengrins Wedding March was played by Mrs. Wallace Nelson of Mt. Jewett sister of the groom. Following the wedding a five-course dinner was served to about 50 guests. Tables were decorated with pink and white candles and cut flowers. The bride's table was centered with a wedding cake. Following the dinner the happy couple left on a motor trip to Chicago, Cleveland and Minneapolis and upon their return will reside in buffalo where the groom is identified with the Hudson-Essex Company. Maris, both of Los Angeles, California, was solemnized at 6 o'clock the evening of September 10th at the Weekirk o' the Heather, Glendale, by the Rev. Hardy A. Ingham. The bride was gowned in a rust colored traveling suit and carried a bouquet of white gardenias. The happy couple will be at home at 3855 North Broadway, Los Angeles, California. October 22, 1931 Page 1. Burdick-Digel Announcement was made recently of the marriage of Miss Alberta Digel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Digel of Coleville and Maurice Burdick, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.I. Burdick of Bank Street, which took place June 12, 1931 in Pittsburgh. The bride is a popular and charming young lady who recently completed her course of training at the Rochester General Hospital. The groom is a fine young man, a talented musician, a graduate of Smethport High School and Westbrook Commercial Academy. They will make their home here where Mr. Burdick holds a position with the Marvel Specialty Company. The Miner and a large circle of friends extend congratulations. Page 1. McCord-McDermott The marriage of Miss Martha McDermott, daughter of Mrs. Lulu McDermott of Smethport and Kenneth McCord of Rew City, was solemnized Wednesday, October 21st, at 9:00 at St. Elizabeth's parsonage, Rev. Urban S. Barrett officiating. Their attendants were Miss Mary McDermott sister of the bride and Warren Gallup. The bride is a charming and popular local young lady a graduate of Smethport High School, and the groom is a fine industrious young man, who is employed on an oil lease at Rew. October 29, 1931 Page 1. Gallup-Wolf Miss Mable Wolf of Mt. Jewett and Alfred Gallup, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Gallup of Smethport, were united in marriage by the Presbyterian minister at Portville, N.Y., Wednesday, October 21. The bride is a charming Mt. Jewett young lady. The groom is a popular and industrious Smethport young man. The Miner and a host of friends extend congratulations. Page 1. Local People Attend Mitchell-Cleveland Wedding Held In Erie Mrs. Mary Forrest, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Ashworth, Marion Ashworth, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Redfield, Hamlin Redfield Gillett, William Taylor and Jerome Newman, attended the wedding of Catherine Aldrich Cleveland and John Forrest Mitchell which took place Tuesday evening at the Church of the Covenant in Erie. The bride is a charming Erie girl, a daughter of Mrs. Frederick Aldrich Cleveland. The bridegroom is a son of A.W. Mitchell, prominent Erie attorney, and a grandson of Mrs. Mary Forrest and Mrs. Stella Mitchell of this place. Both young people have many friends in Smethport who unite with the Miner in wishing them happiness. Page 5. The wedding of Miss Florence Raymer of Rose Hill Avenue and Burdette Thompson of Bolivar is expected to take place Friday at noon at the Methodist Church, followed by a luncheon at the Colonial Hotel. November 5, 1931 Page 1 Holcomb-Church Ethelyn Minerva Church of Farmers Valley and Marsh Stanley Holcomb of Shinglehouse were united in marriage Saturday, October 31st at 3:00 o'clock p.m. at the U.B. parsonage in Farmers Valley, Rev. M.B. Erickson, officiating. The Miner extends congratulations to these popular young people. Page 1. Mitchell-Cleveland Wedding At Erie Brilliant Affair Dignity and simplicity characterized the wedding Tuesday evening of Mrs. Catherine Aldrich Cleveland, the daughter of Mrs. Frederick Aldrich Cleveland, West Lake Road and John Forrest Mitchell, the son of Attorney and Mrs. A.W. Mitchell 808 West Seventh Street, which took place at 7:30 o'clock in the Church of the Covenant with the Rev. Ralph Marshall Davis pastor, officiating. Miss Cleveland's and Mr. Mitchell's wedding was the first to be solemnized in the beautiful new edifice. Section following is not readable. The Bride's Gown Miss Cleveland was a radiant bride, her gown being a lovely Callott model of richest ivory chiffon velvet. It was simply made with cowl neck line, inserts of real rose point lace, long sleeves and a separate deep court train depending from the waist and caught with a brilliant buckle. A tulle veil created in Julette cap fashion with real rose point lace which was also worn by the bride's mother and her sister, was held in place with a tiny spray of orange blossoms. The veil fell in soft billowy folds to the hem of the bridal gown. She held a sheaf of calla lilies. The bride carried a handkerchief which her grandmother, Mrs. L.M. Little, also carried on her wedding day. She was given in marriage by her brother-in-law, R.P. Price. The Attendants. The matron of honor, the bride's sister ( next section is unreadable) Mrs. Cleveland wore a beautiful gown of white creep embroidered in rhinestones. Mrs. Mitchell wore royal blue velvet and a corsage of gardenias. Mrs. Cleveland wore orchids. The Reception. Following the ceremony there was a reception of 150 guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. Preston Price, Wolfe Road. The living room was attractively arranged with oak leaves, eybotium ferns and golden brown chrysanthemums. The bride's table was centered with white roses, chrysanthemums and southern smilax. The Wedding Trip Late in the evening the new Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell left on an extended motor trip. For her going away costume the bride wore a stunning costume of Spanish tile and a coat of brown trimmed with fox surmounted by a brown hat. Upon their return they will reside at 917 Myrtle Street. The bride who is prominent in social circles is a member of the Junior League. She attended Baldwin School, Bryn Mawr, Pa. Mr. Mitchell who is with Prahl Construction Company is a graduate of Yale University. November 8, 1931 Page 1 Scanlon-Rice Nuptials Saturday The marriage of Miss Vivian Rice daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rice of Willow Street to Neil Scanlon, son of Mrs. Edward Okerlund of East Smethport, will take place Saturday morning at the home of the bride's parents. Both are well known and popular young people, who have a large circle of friends to wish them happiness. Page 8 Murphy-Hoffman Miss Helen Hoffman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hoffman and Stephen Murphy, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Murphy were united in marriage on Wednesday morning November 4th at St. Elizabeth's Church in Smethport, with the Rev. U.S. Barrett officiating. They were attended by Miss Mary Hoffman sister of the bride and Joseph Hoffman, brother of the bride. Upon their return from a wedding trip to Pittsburgh, Mr. and Mrs. Murphy will reside in Port Allegany. November 19, 1931 Page 1. Scanlan-Rice Wedding Occurs Last Saturday The marriage of Miss Vivian Rice to Neil William Scanlan took place last Saturday morning, November 14th at 10:00 o'clock at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rice, of Mill Street, Smethport. The groom is the son of Mrs. Edward Okerlund of East Smethport. The single ring ceremony was performed by Rev. J.E. Besant, pastor of the First Baptist Church in the presence of a large gathering of relatives and friends of the popular young couple and took place in a cozy living room in front of beautiful ferns and yellow pom-poms. (Most of marriage description is unreadable) November 25, 1931 Page 1. Anderson-Halpenny At a party at her home on Bank street Thursday evening, Mrs. W.H. Halpenny announced the marriage of her daughter, Emogene, to Herbert Anderson, which occurred recently at Olean, N.Y., the Rev. C.C. Shedd, pastor of the Methodist Church officiating. Their attendants were MR. and Mrs. Lawrence Reddington of Limestone. The bride is a charming and popular Smethport girl, the daughter of County Commissioner and Mrs. W.H. Halpenny. She graduated from Smethport High School with the class of 1929 and from the Westbrook Commercial Academy of Olean with the class of 1930. She has held a position in the County Treasurer's office for some time. Mr. Anderson is a fine young man, a member of the Highway Motor Patrol, and was formerly stationed in Smethport. Harmon-Sebring Recent announcement has been made of the marriage of Helen Sebring, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sebring of Pierce Brook to Edward Harmon, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Harmon of Smethport. The marriage took place in Cranesville, Pa., Sunday, November 22nd, Rev. Wm. Chase, former pastor of the local United Brethren church, now located at Cranesville, officiating. The bride is a charming and popular young lady, a graduate from Smethport High School in the class of 1931. The groom is a graduate form Smethport High School in the class of 1928. He attended Pennsylvania State College, and now holds a position at the Metro Gasoline Station. He was a prominent figure in athletics while in school here being captain of the S.H.S. track and field team and holding the record for some time on the mile run. Both young people have a large circle of friends in this section. They will reside in East Smethport. The Miner extends hearty congratulations for a happy and successful wedded life. Page 1. The bride is a former popular Smethport girl, a graduate of Jamestown High School of the Class of 1930. The groom is a valued employe of the Niagara Power Company. December 31, 1931 page 1 Hockenberry - Goedell Nuptials Solemnized The marriage of Miss Irene Goedell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.A. Goedell of West Sunbury Pa and Dr. R.E. Hockenberry of Smethport, son of Charles Hockenberry of West Sunbury was solemnized at 10:00 o'clock a.m. Christmas day at Slippery Rock, Rev. McClure pastor of the Presbyterian church officiating. The bride is a charming and popular young lady, a graduate of West Sunbury Vocation School and of Slippery rock Normal School.
