Berg on the Bordell road, near Smethport, at 2:00 o’clock yesterday afternoon which resulted in the death of their son, little Paul Berg, aged 4 years, from a charge from an accidentally exploded shotgun. The loaded weapon had been left standing against a wall of the house by a neighbor boy named Booth and in some manner was jarred from place and fell to the ground, causing it to explode. The charge of shot passed close to Mrs. Berg who was returning to the house from hanging up some clothes, and struck Paul, who was following close behind his mother. The full force of the shot hit the little boy on the right side of the head and face, tearing away part of the nose and one eye. The victim was within 20 feet of the muzzle of the gun when the explosion occurred. Dr. Robert Hamilton of Smethport was hurriedly summoned and the little boy was beyond all aid. Death occurred at 4:00 o’clock. The lad was one of a family of eight children. The father is employed by S. H. Elder. McKean County Democrat, Volume 50, No. 49, Front Page Thursday, December 3, 1925 ----------------------------------------------------- --In the account of the deplorable accident last week in which little Paul Berg of the Bordell road was killed by the accidental discharge of a shotgun, it was reported that the gun was left standing against the side of the Berg residence by a neighbor lad named Booth. This was an error. The Democrat is informed that the shotgun belonged to one of the Berg boys and had been left standing against the house, from which position it was jarred to the ground and exploded by him. None of the Booth boys were anywhere near the scene of the accident.
